If you want to be completely surprised by everything that happens, make sure you don't read the comics version of the story because quite a few of the plotlines are the same. Once you're caught up with the TV shows, be sure to check out The Walking Dead webisodes. There is a series for each season so far, and they give you a little background on some of the things you see in The Walking Dead series.
