Most insurance companies cover chip repairs with no deductible, as that's cheaper than not fixing it right away, having the chip become a crack, and then having to replace the windshield. A glass shop will repair it using the exact same method as your dealer would. OTOH in most states insurance companies are prohibited from forcing you to use non-OEM parts, windshields included.
