For $44k I would be thinking about a mustang GT/Boss 302 or Camaro SS/1LE. OP doesn't like muscle cars so I guess you're right, power isn't that bad compared to the rest of the competition.
I guess my one gripe is that the VQ37HR is simply a dated engine (not the VVEL tech, just the engine itself). It makes good power (up high) but mediocre torque all while achieving subpar fuel economy. It has received no real updates since it's inception back in 2008 except for the claimed "350 hp" in the ipl/nismo versions. However, that bump is from a revised exhaust and slight tune and unforunately the claimed "350" is a bit eager when compared with real world results.
