This is not really new. There was an M535 around 1980, the 325i M sport from around 1989, and the 318ti M-technic. There may be others I'm missing. Their whoring of the "M" logo certainly seems to be at an all time high, so you point is definitely valid. I've been a BMW fan since I was a teenager and have owned six in the past 15 years, 3 of which are M's. I'm not going to say this will be my last one, but I think it may be difficult to top the E9X as I am not a fan of turbochargers, the heat and reliability issues they bring to the table and the lack of linear power.
