Just to give you a better idea... look at the US sales number of the M3 (they are traditionally faster from 0-62 mph) :

E30 M3

As you can see there's no possible comparison between the HUGE sales numbers of the Miata and those of the M3 throughout the years. I don't know what BMW is waiting for...
