yes the anchor straps are left in place in the back seat area as well as the one along the door anchored to the seat. i got the harness pads and found them comfortable and useful. harness grips just make it easier to pull down the shoulder pulls and arent really needed.

for me i never removed the harness and just used it all the time on the street as well until switching to regular full 6 point harness.
