For instance: It's one thing to utilize the frame as a stressed member (engine, suspension, etc.), and it's another to also use it as a vessel, a la Buell, Arch, etc. But to make it purposely flexible to articulate ride characteristics so much that it completely eliminates the need for a head tube and front fork assembly?
