Home Theater Connectivity Question (Wireless Speaker Transmitter)

I have a standard a/v receiver that supports up to 7.1 channels. I would like to run a wireless speaker transmitter for my surrounds. The transmitter device is 2 components: a) receiver for speakers and b) transmitter for audio source.

What I’m not sure about is how to connect the transmitter to the back of the receiver so the corresponding speakers act as surrounds instead of playing full ‘range.’ The transmitter only has 1 connecting source and it’s 3.5mm. Can I use a 3.5mm to RCA female adapter, and then male RCA to speaker wire? I feel like this could be a potential issue because the speaker outs on the receiver should be passive. And connecting a powered device like the transmitter could fry the unit?
