I don't know how it is now but for sure when the BRZ hit the market last year, many dealers were insane. A frd of mine who was seriously considering the car went to our local Subaru with me on one Saturday afternoon to check the car out. Turned out, not only they denied his test drive request but the salesman also said to us that they wouldn't sell the car they have at that momment and want $6000 none-refundable deposit to go onto a 6 month no option wait list. That means when it's your turn, you take what comes in that time or else your $6000 is wasted. I had to ask if he was serious about that a few times.

OP, I am pretty sure the BRZ is a fun to drive car and if you are in no need to finance it, going with a Japanese auto maker makes very much sense. They have very different approaches when it comes to sell/lease/finance cars comparing to German auto makers especially BMW which always seem to have better lease deal.
