Tires with that sort of wear are simply not going to handle, brake or ride as well as quality tires that don't last that long. It's a compromise. If you want tires that last a long time, you'll have to give up some safety of shorter stopping distances and handling capabilities.

I run Michelin Pilot A/S 3's on my daily and they are not nearly as capable as my PSS's, but they last twice as long and are quieter. Of course it helps that my daily is 2,600 pounds too.
