The laser etching is pretty deep. Although the details are very fine, I feel it would take a fair bit of work to remove it. I would be inclined to say that you would have to go very abrasive. The emblem actually consist of three parallel lines to form each letter and back slashes. I believe this helps to give it a distinct outline.
The end result is way better than I expected.
