No. First one, the monkey is incredibly smart. A genius of sorts, which, in the mind of the reader makes him superior compared to his sort. But then the woman comes in and tell him he ate all the bananas and shat all over the place, bringing him RIGHT down again from a genius to a plain monkey. Nothing to do with the kid.
I think for the praying mantis, he didn't know how to distinguish between male and female...
