Fully agree. BMW has really fallen behind on the basics on this front. LED technology has been in the center mounted brake light since the 80s. Other than for that purpose BMW has been spotty at best. Here is my experience but you can look at many other BMW models and see similar lack of use of even LED technology. Keep in mind that many of the most basic low price models from Detroit, Japan, and Korea have led brake, tail, and turn indicator lights.

1993 318 didn't expect it
2000 323ci didn't expect it
2001 330i I hoped for it but it never showed up except in the ci
2006 330i expected it. It showed up in the lci and then was taken off on the f series. Crazy...
2013 135is expected it.
2014 x1 expected it.

I have installed LEDs in my 135 and e90 330 with aftermarket bulbs. Bottom line is cool stuff but unless they change their strategy and timeline for rollout, history would suggest that we might see this on a model that I might purchase in about 10 years.
