Either way, its a new car and BMW would know the VIN number for the stolen cars. So if they take it into a shop or try and register it, then BMW/Law Enforcument would know.

If the cars do go to a 3rd world country, ha well, it would be funny if they tried and get it serviced at a BMW dealer. The VIN would tell all. Can you imagine

"um, excuse me Sir, but is your car stolen?"

As for the vehicle recovery for stolen vehicles (as someone previously mentioned) - that would only work if the car was registered to BMW Assist. Which is probably not the case.
if they could afford to pay for a one off stolen vehicle and import it to a 3rd world country im sure they could pay off the guy at the service department or just go to a another shop. but this is a pretty crazy story tho..and that car is long gone!
