At the heart of the matter, as a Christian, I do believe that life starts at conception. So although not born yet (as another poster alluded to), I see it still as life. And I think that's perhaps the most important difference that divides the two positions.

Because if it is life, how can killing someone be viewed as a good thing? As a liberating law? To kill someone who has no voice, no say in the matter, all under the guise of woman's rights? What about all the rights of the unborn women who are killed - should they not matter if it was only about women's rights?

Are there not other options - ie. if you do not want to have a child, there are many adoption agencies and people out there who are not fortunate enough to have a child who would love to have someone else's.

And I suppose another point that bothers me...in the majority of these cases (rape aside), it was a joint (hopefully) choice to have sex and with that, no matter what contraception you use, you always must face the fact that you *could* become pregnant. You made a choice, and a pregnancy resulted - why should that result in someone who is innocent in the matter being aborted?
I absolutely agree with you in many things in your post, and thank you also for taking this seriously.

In my view, educating about birth control is the key to this all, but we all know accidents do happen. For men, it is easier to walk away, but for women it is pretty damn hard. I have seen this many times in my life, the last time while in the states and in some town in Tennessee (if I remember correctly) I found a 14, soon to be 15 year old girl, a child in my view crying next to my car, because the car was pretty, and her life was over. She had found out that she was pregnant a few days earlier, and the realization what was to become of her was settling in.

I left her my number so if she needed help I would make it happen. I am not saying an abortion is the only way, but the scars she will wear for the rest of her life no matter of the decision are bad enough already.

We are humans and we fuck up a lot. Too many times this option should've been taken just for the good of humanity. Man gets to leave the bed, and do it all over again in a few minutes, we women carry the child inside of us for the 40 weeks, and then we will bare the traumas of the birth, the wait, the giving up/ keeping the kid and possibly losing all prospects of a better future. Can you honestly say when not just thinking about the ethics and the time life begins, this is fair?
