I didn't mean the "hope of attracting new clients" as a bad thing about the car. After all, BMW needs to be profitable, and if they think they can lose a few sporty-loving customers and gain a lot new customers by making the car slightly less sporty, then they should and obviously have done that. Let's face it, the enthusiast market is a small share of BMW's sales (my guess).
