BMW iX1 Incoming

Dont see dedicated iX1 forum and very little forum traffic on this car.

Went for a Space Silver 30 M Sport thru the company SalSac scheme, due early Dec. Only option is the Tech+ pack (stock cars had the best deals).

Test drive was very good following ID.3 and XC40 Recharge. EQA was other contender but no demo cars available.

It will be our first foray into EV and mainly the wifes car......

Interesting to hear anyones thoughts if they have one.........unless they are bad

Really like the look of them..a baby X5. Space silver shows off the lines well, a neighbours son works in the dealership and he had one and they loved it, congrats

How did it compare with the ID.3? I’m 25k miles into my ID.3 ownership and find it’s a great daily driver.

Congrats, if you can charge at home I think you will find it makes a great daily. No idea on range and charging speeds but the reality is, if you can charge at home, for most people those things rarely matter and you should pick the car you like best!

Did you test drive the Cupra Born as well as the ID3 as they are in effect the same car ?

ID.3 was actually the target car - looked great on paper and was same size as wifes CX3. It drove very well with loads of cabin space and felt nice. In isolation, we would have been quite happy with the car. BUT. The model variant we drove had lots of options that werent available in the company portal. So, it would be a basic model ID.3.

We only went to look at the iX1 to rule it out as felt it would be too big. And while it looks about the same size as the X3M, it was only 200mm longer than the CX3. There is no doubt the iX1 feels more luxury and for the extra £20k or so (???) price tag, so it should. However, that only translated to an extra £40pm through the scheme. The bigger boot in the iX1 also a bonus.

I passed a new X1 yesterday. It looks very good indeed.

7p/kWh is as cheap as you'll get anywhere, so as long as you have access to the charger, you'll be fine.

The problem with charging at work is getting access as EVs become more popular, and of course the landlord or owner maintaining the equipment properly. SiL charged at work until there were so many EVs he could never get enough hours - although he did have a 150 mile commute each way, once a week!

We have 8 x 22kW outlets in our place and an ever-expanding EV fleet.

We're limited to 3 hour slots with a rudimentary queuing system in place, which works well (so long as people don't take the pi$$) and 3 hours at 11kW charging speed for most gives enough charge to keep people going.

We are adding another 4/6 outlets soon though.

i think our 10spaces will be fine for quite some time yet - today for example, more than half the spaces are free.

Currently its not regulated at all - but i can imagine that will change.

Delivery date confirmed as 18th Dec.......quite excited actually!!!!

Parents have just got a 23d M Sport in July in Blue Bay Lagoon! It's not electric but basically same car. Comfort Pack, and Pano Roof, Larger Fuel tank, and a couple of other bits.

They do like it. It's very tech based, and they've had a few software glitches with it. They had a software issue with the accelerator too.

Overall it's a very smart looking car though, and is like a baby X5 now. They came from a F25 x35d. Any questions ask away.

It does look good but I can't help being concerned by the idea of a software issue with the accelerator. Hopefully the brakes aren't relying on software too...

They weren’t sure if it was just the car at first as it has done it from
new, or an issue. Apparently you’d press the accelerator to go, and nothing would happen. About 10 seconds later the thing would shoot off at full pelt.

Told them to get it back to them. Anyway, apparently two systems are conflicting, one faulting and one not causing the issue. It’s been reset and told to monitor.

There’s a few other glitches too, mainly down to the new iDrive system I think.

Problem is they’re all too advanced now, even the garages don’t have a clue!

Trying to set their memory seats up with the product genius was useless, ended up doing it myself for them.

That does sound like a very serious fault to me. If the HVAC or media system had a few bugs, I'd understand and expect them to sort it out in a software update within a couple of months. If the car is prone to accelerating unexpectedly, that's another matter entirely.

I know what you mean about garages being out of their depth with the latest tech. I have the problem that when I report a fault, they want to compare it with another 8GC and they don't have any available.

They really have set themselves up to fail by doing the Apple thing and giving people 'Genius' as a job title!

So, its arrived. I have only done about 20mile in it today and so not really ready to offer much of an opinion. I already miss ID7 and lack of real buttons (but i knew that from the test drive, and i will adapt!!!)

I'll update after a few more miles.

I’m really interested to hear more about your car once you’ve settled in with it. Real world range, especially over the winter time and how it drives in particular situations. Is it powerful without the boost function for a decent overtake, or does it need to activated each time to get past with some urgency? Interested to know how much using the boost affects the range?

Also minor things like the centre storage and how it opens away from you - is it an issue or is it just something you get used to? I didn’t like this when I first saw it but then I can count on one hand how much I’ve gone into the central storage on mine since I got it, it’s just used to lug around bits and bobs that never see the light of day!

Likewise. I'm tempted to get one of these next to cope with the Borders terrain

I can answer a few things

1. the armrest opening direction isnt an issue for me - BUT - it is very small in there. Certainly not phone size. Fine for keys, etc.

2. Plenty storage under the "floating" arm - but not that easy to access

3. door pockets are good (not lined)

4. Overtaking is easy - it would complete most overtakes before the X3M or M3 drops down 4 gears and gets into the power band. Really quite a punchy delivery without being stupid fast. No need to use that boost button

5. Tech is ace - phone access (via digital key), 360 camera, camera integrated into satnav at junctions, pre-heat, HUD, walk up unlock & walk away lock are good features

6. Sadly it didnt have option of electric memory seats or tinted windows

7. no light in the glove box - WTF!!!

8. overall the drive is very smooth and sedat and the regen braking is quite intuitive

A few of the other guys at work went iX3 and that is on the ID7 architecture so has the real buttons - but is on the cusp of feeling a little dated. The iX1 is certainly quite fresh feeling.

I will revert on range after a bit (probably post xmas) - but after first full charge its currently sitting at 89% battery and 190mile to go.
