330/35d - Why so many write offs?

I was just browsing AT to see what values are up to currently and noticed that in the 261 results for "3.0d, 2015-2017 F30", several of them are Cat S or N write offs!

Blown engines?

I'd love to know how many of those were running Bridgestone S001. One of the lowest grip tyres I've ever experienced, and the first 'mod' that I made to my car was to bin them off.

They're mostly driven fast and aggressively in my observation. There's no downside as fuel economy of diesel 30 +mpg too unlike powerful petrol cars.

And worse than that, when they get to half worn and lower, the tramlining and crashiness is truly horrendous. So bad in fact I thought my alignment was off, or the fluid CA bushes were shot. Nope, it was all down to the SOO1s! I've experienced a crap tyre ruin a car before, but nothing on this scale.

I remember driving down a greasy Scottish B road on the S001's and the back end kept on snapping out unpredictably on medium power corner exits. A truly awful tire.

Welcome to the forums

Start a new thread for this on the UK page; as you've started this in an existing thread about why 330/335Ds are write off's etc

My previous F31 (30d) was written off due to gearbox being hit by something laying in the road.
Didn’t believe it at first, but quotes were coming back at around £10k to replace the gearbox!

Yeah it's that sort of thing which stoked my curiosity. Base engine is £15K and the box is £10K it seems. With 100K+ 330/35ds now as low as £9K, they can be written off extremely easily!

It's probably also crappy Bridgestones or Pirellis losing the back end in the wet as well, as discussed

A Mustang owner's favourite excuse for crashing a car off the road in a straight line!
