How to exercise while working on computer?
Looking for suggestions -- I know there's different types of machines, like treadmill desks, and desks that fit on top of a stationary bike. Just wondering if anyone here uses something like that.

you're best bet is either a treadmill desk or stationary bike with a desk.
problem is you're going to be in motion and moving around...its going to make it hard to see clearly (i know i would have an issue with it). you're probably better off not doing work while working out

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
Unless you're using a stationary bike, you'll be bouncing up and down while staring at the screen.

Right, but I'm just talking about an occasional spurt to keep the blood flowing. I've seen a couple dudes at work with one of those cheapshit $40 pedal devices under the desk, that they must have got from the Shopper Channel or something, but those things are POS's. I'm looking for something more substantial.

if its the occasional spurt you're looking for......you're better off just taking a 3 minute break every hour or so....walk around and come back. Thats what I do.
theres also a lot of resources online for stretching techniques you can do at your desk to help keep blood circulating. also helps when you're sitting on a long flight.

Butt clenching (no joke).
Or just do 15 pushups/squats every half hour to keep it fresh.

What are you doing on the computer?
If you're just typing documents then get a speech program. If its anything more than that, I would just get away from the computer for 30 minutes because otherwise your work will suffer and your workout will be half-assed. |

I use a standing desk at work. I have severe chronic pain all over my back and right side. It helps avoid compression but that is it. The real answer is take breaks and do something. I never do this myself, but when I do its worth it 100% of the time. Just go walk around and get a drink of water even. Just don't be a statue and you'll see improvement generally. Going to take a walk right now in fact....thanks.

This is a good way to help keep tone and good posture while in the office. It doesn't necessarily provide a work out, but you will be using your core for support through out the day. If you just want to keep the blow flowing through your day at the office, go for a walk around 10 am and walk for 20 or so minutes. Then at lunch walk again, and again at around 3 pm. Based on the average 8-5 job that should keep you lose. |
