Hmmmm, everybody already putting their winters on, snow in the forecast 4 of the next 7 days, thinking I probably should have put mine on last weekend as well. Guess I know what I'll be doing this Saturday!

Funny to see so much winter driving advices from people living in parts where they don't even know what real winter and road salt is (i.e. southern states or Belgium)...

The car is meant to be driven not looked after constantly!
Agreed the last winter was soft , but 2 years ago we had - 19 ° Celsius and 30 cm of snow, and Belgium was running out of roadsalt because it was more than 2 months !
And when I drove to work I was at 04.30 AM on the road and without tracks in the snow , windshield was freezing while driving ,and had to stop to make it clear !
So I think that I know what winter is !But if you live in Polen ..Sweden or Norway ect..I'm agreed that you are saying.....real winters !
BTW....I don't drive my car in winter it's not my DD .

Thanks mate. Bought them from a Swedish dealer, German stuff so paid a good $170 with taller bolts.
The season where you need to keep them on over here is fairly long so wanted to avoid getting irritated over the rears being too far in there... The 12mm still leave the 270' like 8mm further in than the Summer 359' so still not spraying the fenders too bad with dirt....

I drove my e46 M through 6 winters in toronto with very little problems with proper snow tires. Only once did i get real stuck. Car was lowered and the snow was higher than the body of the car! Haha

Snows

I drive mine daily. Short commute of approx. 3 miles each way to station but roads are hilly by me. I have new Michelin PA4's with square setup. Works great. Had no issue last year getting uphill on 6" of un-plowed powder.
Chet

PS. should add that the entire front end, door sills and wheel wells are wrapped to protect against salt and sand.

Im getting ready to drive mine all winter and we get a decent amount of snow. Can I ask how many front undertray pieces you go through in the winter? Mine is pretty low and I cant stop knocking them off in good weather. Any tricks?

I just picked up my M3 this past weekend and I plan to drive it year round. I am getting my snow tires put on next week. I cant wait to see what its like in the snow. I had Michelin Alpin PA3s on my Audi S5 previously and they were amazing!

In regards to the Navigator being all rusted out, American/Japanese cars are rust buckets relative to German cars.

How long did you drive the S5 for? Any tips on keeping these things rust free over the years?

We're getting 2-3 inches tomorrow with our first snowfall of the season!

I had the S5 for about 3 years. I would just recommend when washing the car to make sure you spray down the under carriage. I would also always wash it a few days after a snowfall when they would load the road up with salt.
