Winter woes in Toronto
So I hit a massive pothole last night on my way home from work, this was the result. Luckily I was able to drive off the road and into the nearest gas station because the tire kept air pressure as long as that part of the tire didn't have a load on it. She's at the dealer for swapping the wheel/tire with an OEM summer wheel/tire plus an alignment check.
Anyone have luck claiming pothole damage front the city of Toronto here? PS. It's a pain to get your car on a flatbed with an M Performance Lip - scraped it a bit from the bottom and the screws attaching the middle of the lip have definitely gotten loose so I'll have to take a look when I get it back

Thanks, I've seen some articles and am leaning towards not even bothering to go through the process; I was wondering if someone was going to reply and change my mind :P
I already ordered another wheel this morning because I wouldn't fix it - the reason the tire has kept pressure is because the outer lip bent but it separated from the inner lip; it's about a 1.5" or so separation/crack. The inner lip didn't look bent from what I remember. Thanks for the suggestion, I called them and they confirmed they wouldn't fix it. On a side note... I can't believe wheels/tires cost 15-20% more than they did back in December 2015 when I got my BMW winter set. I noticed the same thing when I ordered winter tires for my wife's car back in November. It's so weird because CAD vs. USD is doing better now than it did back then... sheesh.

you need to take lots of pics of whereabouts of this pothole plus all docs of the wheel related replacement costs when submitting your claim to the city.

I actually bought run flat winter tires earlier in the summer from someone who sold their F30. I wonder how they would do with a bent rim?

I successfully filed a pot hole claim with the city a couple years back. I immediately called 311, got a reference number, and filled a report online. City representative emailed me with another claim form to complete and send. Total time to process and receive a reimbursement cheque was 6 weeks. My rim was not bent, just the tire had to be replaced. They reimbursed a prorated amount based on the number of kms driven. Good luck!

It wasn't a natural pothole, it was a utility cut that was not filled back in properly. I basically hit the straight edge (where they cut the section for road work) of hard and undamaged asphalt because of a 3-4" deep hole that wasn't filled properly right beside it. The rep I spoke with (311) said there will need to be an investigation with the contractor who did the work. I'm definitely filing a claim, this is negligence in my eyes.
PSA: Avoid the far left lane going eastbound on Ellesmere right after the Brimley intersection.

I think it would depend on how the rim bends because for the runflat to keep it's structure for up to 200km they say with low air pressure, the sidewall needs the rim support.

Far left lane going eastbound on Ellesmere right after the Brimley intersection. It's in the left corner of the roadwork that was previously done but not refilled properly. I hope they have fixed it by now, called 311 last week to let them know.
