USB Map Update. How up to date are they?

I'm about to update our maps... But wanted to wait until a major new road development has finished, most of it is done.

Its the A14/A1 bypass around Huntingdon and Cambridge.

How do I tell if I order a USB update from BMW, that it has the new road system on it ?
Do they include roads 'in progress' ?

I'm assuming that the USB maps includes roads that are published at that point and dont get updated when things change, or am I mistaken?

It'll be pot luck if the new roads are included and if they're not yet finished, I'd say it would be unlikely that they would be included on your map update.

That said, if you're doing the map updates via ConnectedDrive, the map updates are for the period of 1 year and the amount of updates are unlimited. Meaning; if it's not included this time round, it's almost definite it will be included over the space of a year.

If my memory serves me correctly, I'm already on my 3rd update with another 3 or 4 months left on the annual plan...

Yes it will be the USB map update via connected drive, BMW online store.
So you say that option includes over the air updates for 1 year? That would be ideal as I assumed it would be a 1 hit upgrade at the time of installing..

I've found the maps are quite a bit behind

On my old 328i with CIC Pro (Premium) nav maps it took ages before the reworked junction M1/A50 near Nottingham showed up correctly.

Maybe the newer generation maps are more up to date but I'd expect the underlying data to be the same in all probability

My 2019-03 (i think) Doesn't have that road on there yet. My nav always goes a bit loopy on that section.

I have always found the map updates are a little slow to show new roads and change of speed limits, usually takes 2 map updates to show changes. I have speed limit display and where no speed signs that the camera can pick up reverts to sat nav info and found change of speed limits a year out of date.

I can understand being a bit slow to catch up. The effort to plot new maps and then push them through into the software must take some time.

So, if I get the 1 year USB map update, does that still get updates for that 1 year, or is it a 1 time only update.?

Hey guys.. so I've just done a USB update from connected drive.
Great. It was a slick process with no issues.

But... I was expecting the 2020 maps..
I got 2019-4.

How do BMW select what maps you get.? Is it based on Idrive versions or age of car.?

It's a 2016 F31 running NBTEVO idrive.

based on the equipment - I get the same maps offered on my 17 F36 LCI.

Reference the new road, we bought on a new road, took over a year for BMW to add it to the maps.

Thanks for the info..
Well that's a touch frustrating then. I assumed the 2020 maps would be there from a bulk USB update.
