We were having an argument when he was around 16 or so about his future. He said he didn't want what I had. I asked what he meant by that and what did I have? He said he didn't know, but he didn't want it! He won that; he has no family, no career, no property other than a very old Chevy Cavalier and most importantly, no relationship with God. At least he supports himself; well, after sticking us with his college loan (I foolishly co-signed for the loan).

Somewhere along the line someone taught him to be fearful - as i'm sure you already know. Could be an ideological possession by online propaganda - likely both. My guess is something happened he feels deep shame about and hast told anyone. Shame is the perfect catalyst for the trajectory your describing. All you can control are your intentions and your prayers for your son. It's never - ever - too late to break the chains of ignorance or ideological possession - and it is a possession - some outside influence took control of your sons soul. Underneath is pain, fear and perhaps as I mentioned shame. If you can do a guys trip to a location he's interested in - my suggestion is to do a lot more listening and a lot less talking - more loving. Good luck and God bless.

Exactly what we've been doing. We "talk" on Mother's Day, Father's Day and our birthdays. We haven't seen him since my MIL died 3 years ago. The ball is totally in his court. I've called him my 2X4 kid for a long time.

I think college really screwed him up. He came home from his 1st summer after philosophy classes with totally bizarre ideas. His initial plan was a psychology or history degree and some idiot liberal "teacher" steered him to philosophy. We call it his paper-or-plastic degree. It's not that he isn't a smart kid; he's very intelligent. But as the Bible says, (paraphrase) intelligence without love is useless. We just have to wait for him to come around.

Ball is always in the parents court - period.

Love is an action and sometimes takes more work than we realize. He may be searching for bottom - hell, many of us had to reach bottom before we were ready for a personal relationship with Jesus.

Completely agree with you on this. We, as parents set their foundation. Unfortunately, this is what I see (and I must admit, that I am not innocent); in raising children, we take the path of least resistance in that we
entertain them with TV (old days), and later it was video games. Today it is the tablet, and phone. Hence a child's foundation is based on what the media offers. Also, in the old days, we had on, and off, buttons (), which are rarely used anymore, it seems. I believe that we can lay blame to any entity, but the responsibility to find truth remains our own. As an example, Acts 17:11
... and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

As a challenge, try weaning off any media for even a week. And we call ourselves free.

The internet is one massive marketing tool used to reflect back to you your insecurities so you'll buy something new. Kids have no business online. Particularly unsupervised. It's like handing them a loaded gun without any training according to psychologists. The propaganda side of the internet wants you to believe nobody is in control so authoritarians can own you ideologically. Pornography alone can ruin a kids mind while in college. Causing plenty of shame that can work it's way into other aspects of the young persons identity.

Don't misunderstand the ball being in his court. The problem is we can't have a civil conversation with him. If we don't cater to his rants, he has nothing to say. Hard to believe, but other than our last name, we have nothing in common. We've called and he doesn't answer. We leave a message and he doesn't call back. That's what I mean; we reach out, he doesn't respond.

Strangely enough, he's about 90 minutes from my sister and her family. They had him over for Thanksgiving & Christmas and he was a totally different person. He told us one thing about a future plan and my sister a totally different story. With us he's the definition of belligerent, with them, charming.

This probably isn't the place for this...

Oh I don't know, I think he's very aware. Look at the way he's keeping an eye on them.

Am I the only one who finds it funny that I took my pig (circa 1979 shop class in junior high) to a cop friend to resurface and then seal?

How would you LEOs handle this...

We were at the Strawberry Festival yesterday and I was, as usual, carrying. For some reason I reached around and felt my back pocket and noticed my wallet missing. I thought FOR SURE I got pickpocketed. I went to one of the sheriff deputies that was there and privately explained my position. I was extremely paranoid that I was carrying without a permit even though I have one. The deputy didn't seem concerned at all that I was carrying without a permit and just wanted me to go to my car and see if it had fallen out there; it hadn't. He gave me his phone number and wanted me to call after we got home and I had checked to see if my wallet was there. THANKFULLY it was! I called and got his voicemail so just left a message. I guess I was hoping he would escort me to my car so I wouldn't get in Dutch with any other LEOs. I was SHOCKED that he didn't seem to care much that I was armed without a permit. San Diego County deputies seem to be very CCW positive.

Thoughts?

San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange County and Riverside County Deputies are CCW-positive because those counties issue. Los Angeles County Deputies don't really care, but CCW holders aren't encountered as much in Los Angeles County either.

Given your situation, I wouldn't have sweated you. It's easy to confirm whether or not you've been issued a CCW.

Normally, bad guys don't ask cops for help. Since you were asking the cop for help, you probably hit his radar as a good guy and not a person to worry about.

I beg to differ. But you're right, these are not normal.

Murf, Sedan - this news just broke: https://apple.news/AG5ge82oERxuQC8gN-35fMw

Headline: B.C. to decriminalize possession of small amounts of ‘hard’ drugs such as cocaine, fentanyl and heroin

Effective Jan. 31, 2023, British Columbians 18 and older will be able to carry up to a cumulative total of 2.5 grams of these illicit substances without the risk of arrest or criminal charges. Police are not to confiscate the drugs, and there is no requirement that people found to be in possession seek treatment. The production, trafficking and exportation of these drugs will remain illegal.

Thoughts as cops?

All of these governments are complicit in ruining the fabric of society. Decriminalization of hard drugs does nothing but further erode communities and increase crime. They might as well be saying, based on their action(s) or inaction(s), "Do whatever the fuck you want. There are no consequences."

Thank you for your quick response. I don’t claim to understand the reasoning, but this seems to be one of those “settlements” that don’t seem to make sense.
To me - Decriminalizing the drugs themselves (albeit by quantity) just seems to remove any fear of punishment.
The article goes in to say that “ production, trafficking and exportation of these drugs will remain illegal” - so if drugs are making their way to the end users, the justice system (laws, enforcement, punishment, etc) in itself has failed anyway.

Drug dependence/ addiction is a mental health issue too.
I’ve often thought that perhaps mental asylums or sanitariums need to return in a “better” capacity (Since the first thought that often comes to mind of such institutions is a hell hole of abuse inflicted by sadistic employees)

This is basically the government admitting failure but clothing it in a “oh we care about the poor junkies”.. The drugs are still illegally procured and still end up in the “market”

I recall reading Murf mentioning how the free injection sites mess up municipalities. There was an article a few months ago (I can’t recall exactly where) that linked the property market in British Columbia to underground drugs

Edit: makes me wonder what do the cops In BC think about this law

Question, but is jail over-crowding playing a factor here in these law changes? I'm no expert on the subject, but if it's a matter of over-crowding existing jails based on the severity of the crime, while this isn't ideal it may be a matter of becoming the best of the worst case scenarios.

Otherwise, I can't fathom why the decision to decriminalize possession of hard drugs - regardless of the amount.

We are constantly releasing people from our jails. Furthermore, inmates have more rights while incarcerated than those who are free.

I'm not surprised bro. Criminals know loopholes. I can arrest a person and they can tell me from A-to-Z what's going to happen and how soon they'll be out…..

….and they are absolutely correct.
