extended lug size

Hello have a 2015 335xi. Super noob question but my girlfriend got me wheel spacers for Christmas, but without the extended lugs. The wheel spacers are from h/r 10mm front and 15mm in the rear. Can anyone assist me in which size extended lugs to buy for the front and rear? I don’t want to buy a set and them be either too long or too short. Thanks in advance.

Stock wheel bolt threads are about 27mm-28mm long so you just add the thickness of the spacer to get the length bolt that you will need.

Guys often buy expensive wheels and tires and forget to find wheel locks to protect them from theft. Farad in Italy makes high quality wheel locks with longer shanks. Below is a U.S. link where you can buy them and also longer wheel bolts at the same time.

Stock BMW F30 bolts actually use about 11mm of 1.25 pitch thread into the hub. That’s about the minimum spec required to hold wheels on property. So it’s important for the shank of any extended bolt to be at least 27/28mm + the thickness of the wheel spacer. For his rear wheels with 15mm spacers he’ll need about 43mm shank length wheel bolts.

stock=28mm

new bolt length = 28mm + spacer thickness

The 40mm are for 10-12mm spacers. They sell the 43mm for the 15-18mm size spacers too.

The extended lug bolt doesn’t need to be exact to the mm of the spacer - just close - to maintain the correct threads engagement. Err on the longer side vs shorter when in-between.

I totally agree with you. I’m just concerned that someone will misinterpret “just close” to mean that they can use bolts that are a little shorter which will put them under the stock thread engagement spec. I know that you mean that they can be a little longer.

Some more information below for anyone interested:

I did not realize until I measured myself recently and doublechecked with a race engineer, that F30 wheel bolts only have 11mm of the 28mm shank actually screwed into the hub. That 11mm is less than 1/2”, actually 0.43”.

So it’s very important for safety that guys don’t shave millimeters off of that by using shorter bolts with their spacers than is recommended. Say someone uses the next size down than they should, thinking that it’s only 3mm. That leaves only 8mm of threads actually screwed into the hub which is a substantial 27% under the spec.

Definitely a potential safety problem. Crazy to risk expensive wheels and lives by cheaping out by not buying long enough wheel bolts.

Attached is the F30 wheel bolt/spacer list from the Apex link that Alohasurftoad posted.
