bricked FRM?

I’ve got another thread in here related to this issue but long story short. Car was totaled and fixed which included a new driver side adaptive headlight. After driving the car back home 2 hours I noticed that night the driver headlight was flipping up upon turning the lights on instead of dipping down like the passenger side does. It was also panning left and right which the old one never did. Either way I got the bright idea that they must not have coded the new light. I already had standard tools installed from Bimmergeeks so I went ahead and followed the instructions in the image I’ve included. Coding was successful but now I can’t access the NFRM anymore. I get a “VIN is faulty error” also my turn signals, windows, locks, mirrors and high beams no longer work. I’ve uninstalled the entire suite and reinstalled fresh but same thing. I cannot access NFRM or FRM anymore as they both throw the faulty vin error. I can access CAS. I’m gutted right now but I have no one else to blame but myself.

Let’s pretend I should not be messing around With coding until I learn more and in fact should have just drove the 2 hours back to get this issue fixed under warranty. I coded some stuff a couple of years back but forgot all the details of how everything works. I assume you mean update the daten files for the programs? Appreciate your response man.

For sure dude. Yeah if you are using the Bimmergeeks pack I believe it comes with the datens from around 2016.

Also check to see if you can see and read info and communicate with your FRM in INPA. If so, you may want to reflash using WinKFP and then recode in NCS. I would be surprised if what you tried to do genuinely killed the module, but the FRM is known to be super fragile.

Oof yeah not the best sign unfortunately. You will probably not be able to try the reflash with it in this state.

Go through the motions of treating this as standard FRM failure as of right now (Check for power and grounds at the FRM) and maybe reseat the module. If it's still offline and not responding you will either have to get EEPROM repaired or replace :/

Sounds expensive. Can’t believe just coding a module can fry it. Well funds are tight lately so I guess the M3 just gets put away extra early for winter this year lol. Just put all new Pilot SS’s on too 😞

I ran a check on all modules via INPA. I’m pretty sure a working FRM should be showing in this list.

Yeah we would expect to see it here. Try reflashing with winkfp and report back what you observe.

I know it’s just……I’m one of those BMW drivers that use my signal lol. Also a pain having to flex the top of the door window to close the door.

Although it’s definitely something that will still allow the car to physically run, it’s definitely not something you should be driving on public roads with until it’s fixed haha. See if you can find a service that you can mail your FRM to in order to have the eprom flashed. If not, you will have to replace the FRM3 entirely and that will likely be much more expensive.

I found a service that does it for $55. It appears they’ve done a lot of these and they have good feedback. Seems like a great side hustle if you have the equipment to flash the eeprom 🤔
