A heart-melting look from a kitten.
We are determined to have a couple of cats within the next couple of months but disagree on the details. I would prefer to avoid getting kittens and want to keep any cats indoors where they are safer. My wife wants kittens and "maybe we could let one go outside sometimes." Discussions continue.

I've had cats all my life and several have gotten sick or died in ways they wouldn't have if we kept them in. They will be very content in your home. |

My wife and I have had cats for over 20years and all of them have been indoor cats except the first lot which we quickly learnt was the wrong move from the amount of wildlife they killed and brought home to show us, to the fights they got into with other cats and all the vet bills from the things they caught outside. If you keep them indoors from kittens and they don'y know any different, then they won't try to get out and if they do, they'll be scared and won't know what to do or how to defend themselves. I'm all for keeping cats indoors now. Better for us, better for them and better for the wildlife.

That lasted only a few months. She will be 12yo this July and now she never tries to get out and does not sit in front of the doors to be let out anymore. She sits in the window sills and in front of the sliding glass door screens and is very content to watch what's going on outside from the inside. I don't think she's the exception and think that a cat does not have to be raised inside from a kitten to be happy and content in the house. This may not be true for every single cat but our last 3 cats were adults when we adopted them and we kept them in the house 100% of the time and they're perfectly content in the house. They do not try to get out once they have been in the house and not let out for a few months. I think they adjust fine to inside life. |

Just came home from the long weekend and seems dysfunctional house guest/leech has managed to allow my red point Siamese out the door and didn't bother to call me because he's been gone since Saturday. I live on a super busy road and he is afraid of traffic thankfully so he went into the woods. I am stressed out. He was given to me by my gal and he's a 18 pound lap dog. So hoping he is ok.

The havahart traps work well, but you may end up catching other locals like raccoons and neighbor cats. Often your cat will be hunkered down someplace fairly close so it pays to take some time to just sit outside and wait.

A few nights later, out of the corner of my eye I saw something walk by a sliding glass door. I went out and looked around and there he was, about 20 ft away standing between a couple of Cypress trees. I slowly and quietly walked over and gently picked him up and brought him in the house. I was so happy. Thought I'd never see him again. Guess he had enough adventure. Don't give up hope, your cat might come back. Last edited by Esteban; 05-28-2024 at 12:23 PM.. |

Came upon this link to a crazy artist who does 'If Cats were Giants' photoshops.
Worth the time, if you like this kind of thing. Props to the artist Andrey Scherbak. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/techn...381bde8&ei=43# |
