AI's Massive Power Consumption Demands Innovative Energy Solutions
Jan 22, 2024 Artificial Intelligence, including systems like GPT-3, consumes massive amounts of electricity, comparable to entire nations, and is expected to use 3.5% of global electricity by 2030. Estimations suggest that the training process for GPT-3, the predecessor of ChatGPT, required around 1,287 megawatt hours of electricity and 10,000 computer chips – enough energy to power about 121 homes in the United States (where the average home consumes a considerable amount of energy compared to other nations) for an entire year. The amount of energy used to train GPT-3 is also sufficient to produce around 550 tonnes of carbon dioxide. Indeed, estimated figures suggest that Open.AI, the creators of ChatGPT, spend about US$700,000 per day on computing costs alone to run its chatbot service for its approximately 100 million users around the globe. https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-G...Solutions.html AI Boom Will Cause Data Centre Electricity Demand to Double January 24, 2024 As AI and other new technologies continue to be in high demand worldwide, the data centres that facilitate this growth will double their electricity consumption in just two years. https://datacentremagazine.com/data-...mand-to-double Better fire up those windmills. |

Would you prefer it if your govt just adopted whatever policy a (large) manufacturer told it to? Would you be okay with the British govt saying, “welp, Toyota says EVs aint gonna happen so shut it down.” What if Toyota said tricycles was the future?

Yes, profit motive has created very good things. Government does not operate on profit motive. That's why the US is $37T in debt.

Bozo vetoes law blocking EV charging stations' 'Buy America' waiver
January 24, 2024 WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Bozo on Wednesday vetoed legislation aimed at reversing his administration's waiver of "Buy America" requirements for government-funded electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, according to a senior U.S. official. The veto came the same day Bozo's 2024 re-election campaign won the endorsement of the United Auto Workers, a politically influential union that has sought the administration's protection amid the transition to electric vehicles. https://www.reuters.com/business/aut...ns-2024-01-24/ Yes yet another example of unions screwing their members and politicians screwing Americans. But hey look over here, it's Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. |

The point eugenebmw is making warrants that EV tyres generally have a shorter lifespan compared to lighter gas cars because of their heavier weight.

Okay, but what is the number? I necessarily do not adhere that EV are significantly heavier than ICEV where tire wear is that much greater. But are EV-specific rubber compounds and tread patterns designed for quieter operation affecting shorter tire lifespans?

I’m not against a non hair on fire reasonable discussion, but I’m against Clickbait BS.
By definition, the heavier the car generally the faster the tire wear. But the article about an EV car getting 7000 miles per set of tires is ridiculous. The first C 63 AMG was having some issues with tire wear but I wouldn’t extrapolate that to every ICE vehicle and I had a C63 AMG. I think it was mainly a rear camber issue and the torque. |

WHICH... ironically was led by corporate lobbying in the form of Tesla looking for a handout and later not paying their taxes and / or moving locations to prevent payment of taxes... here is where the GOVT didn't get involved and just let things pass. That's the circle of life in this country. We can no longer afford a fraction of what we currently spend money on.
