I won't challenge on any of the points about LL this or that. My use of it started yes you got it with a WRX and STI but it has served me well for over 15 years in all my turbo vehicles... i recommend it based not on stats but how it has served all my turbo cars... which i think is 8...
It's seriously not recommended to run it in the B series engines.

Subaru is completely different from BMW engines as well, everything you know about it should've gone out the window, like their ringlands

Just FYI, I've seen a B58 yeet it's piston from the bottom of it's block a few months ago, and he was running T6. They checked the oil via blackstone, and it showed a very high amount of calcium in the oil.

Not really understanding the Rotella T6 hype. What are people trying to get out of this oil that they can’t get from multitude of the LL01, LL01FE, LL04, LL17FE oils available in almost all kinds of viscosities, price points, and actually meet BMW requirements?

It's been a thing in the subaru community that somehow translated into the N54.

It's diesel oil that isn't approved for BMW, and I don't know why anyone would take what they learned from subaru and apply it to BMW.

Subaru is just a very outdated platform that isn't happy, the engine is so bi-polar to the point where you can sneeze on it and it dies, or it can run on no oil and last 200k miles.

This always has been a hot topic and yes, i started using T6 with my Subaru's.
From Shell's website

Wait, Does This Mean Rotella T6 Is A Diesel Motor Oil?
Yes, but allow us to explain. Shell is marketing Rotella T6 as a heavy-duty diesel engine oil, but there are actually two types of Rotella T6. The first is Rotella T6 fully synthetic and heavy-duty diesel engine oil. But since it utilizes Shell’s proprietary Triple Plus Protection formula (and the fact it’s available in 15W-40, 5W-40, and 0W-40), it’s also good for high-performance gasoline engines for both street and track applications – particularly those with forced induction.

I won't argue the statistical part as previously stated, i've had a good experience with it along with many other boosted owners i am aware of...

yea I've heard it's good, especially with turbo's loving zinc. I'm gonna switch as I've heard motul is great, only reason I didn't switch before was because of the price.

2. It is popular with Subaru crowed from times when Subaru’s were going through head gaskets every time one changes oil. At that time T6 was popular with VW crowd bcs. huge fuel dilution issues on first generation FSI engines. Since T6 at that time was really thick, it helped keeping oil in grade during OCI. Subaru crowed jumped on that VW train. While VW crowd left the train, Subaru crowd never did.
3. There is no such thing as low clearance. B generation of engines is built for ANY BMW oil approval including LL01 and LL04. The reason why there is no love for LL17FE is that it is created STRICTLY for fuel efficiency. That is it!
Just picked up an '14 328d coming from a mk5 GTI with that FSI (running Rotella for the last 10ish years LOL) and was wondering about it for the F30. Guess I'll use whatever LL04 I can get from the local Advance...
