So E28....... E34.E39......E60.F10.....F90..

It would almost appear that some cars are just the difference in looks, while others are a leap forward, like E34 to E28 or F10 to F90. Kinda nice for those who like E34 or E39, E60 or F10, because there you can sort of go off looks, not off performance.

Next M5 wont be a leap forward or will it? If past is any indicator it will not be a huge improvement in performance. It certainly isnt on looks (not to me anyway).

F10 and E60 seems to be close or almost on par... Everything pre F10 is just dinosaur age slow at this point... also I am more shocked they have a well running E60 here more than anything.
Yeah, out of all of those, I didn't expect the F10 to be the one lunching itself.

My biggest gripe with modern cars. I enjoyed puttering around in my Z4M a lot more than driving twice as fast and barely feeling it in my F13 M6.

With older cars less was more. The most ‘fun’ bmw I’ve owned has to be the manual e36 328i sport coupe. It ‘only’ had 193 bhp @ 5,300 rpm & 207 lb-ft Torques @ 3,950 rpm but I loved it, you really could ‘take it by the scruff of the neck & max it out’.

ZF8 shift feels a quarter second slower vs M-DCT, and this is irritating especially on the racetrack that requires frequent downshifting. It shifts ok driving 5/10ths but nowhere do you feel the transmission is adequate pushing hard.
I think at this point you are arguing with BMW M engineers, who also acknowledged in their explanation videos that DCT is twice as fast as ZF8.

The ZF8 still shifts faster than the blink of an eye. The DCT still has far more drawbacks on these cars.
