I don't use it very often. My shift lights are too dim, even turned to max, I may have tapped an incorrect hot. The timer buttons are too sensitive for a track timer, buttons get pushed accidentally just hustling the wheel around, and I wish they were more positive to feel with gloves on.

It's been almost a year since I installed it and I still like using the g-force meter. I find the integrated tach pretty bright even during the day so I would just check your wiring. The alcantara has been a bit of a disappointment though. I will try cleaning it and see if it comes out better.

I had a 330ci ZHP package and I believe the steering wheel was wrapped in alcantara.. 13000 miles on it and it had collected little balls of the material together. I found myself pulling them off while at a red light. I dont know if it was from sweat, water, or time but it definitely was not as nice as when I first got it. Nothing stays gold forever tho, but nice product. For me personally I'm waiting to see if they come out with the tri color stitching

I heard alcantra is a beast to care for. Its just hard cause its in the line of fire with your daily driving- PG, how has your alcantra held up all this time?

I'd NEVER buy anything with 'Alcantara' which is just a fancy name for microfiber CLOTH; manufacturers make a killing with that crap, substituting it for leather without dropping the price (Porsche did that with the Cayenne GTS, Nissan with the 370Z touring, etc).
I saw an ad for the performance wheel wrapped in leather not long ago on the classifieds; looked OEM. That's the only way I'd get one... if I was interested. |

It's more like fancy name for nicer suede that wears out very quickly. I had one in my E46M3. it attracts and observe all sweat/dust in the air. Looks great and feels amaaazing but very hard to keep it clean and about 2 years- it looks pretty bad (daily driving for 2 years). BMW actually offered warranty on one time replacement on Alcantara steering wheel for E46M3 ZCP cars but they start replacing it to regular leather one instead of Alcantara.
