Buy a Miata and call it a day.

Some of us like technology, not for the sake of having it, but technology that makes driving a car easier. That's not to mean I want the car to drive itself (although for my morning and evening commute...I wouldn't object due to the traffic), but things like HUD that way my eyes can stay locked on the road more.

S2000 is not rare nor luxury, sorry. Cool fun cars, for sure, though.

It's not luxury but it's not a common car. I live in NJ/NYC area, where you pretty much see everything and S2K are not very common.

I don't see C6 Vettes daily either, but it's still a mass produced car like the S2K.

There are only 138 AP2 S2000s for sale in entire USA and only 87 AP2s that are 2006+ ( years with all the lastest "features and upgrade") (there are 3800 335s for sale and about 1000 E90 M3s)

It topped charts in nearly every maganize and article and surprisingly still does when its not even in production anymore

During the past 5 years S2000 actually increased in price People still paying $30-35k to get one near brand new. And some pick S2000 over Porsche Cayman S because its light years ahead in reliability even when tracked hard and supercharged

What else....its one of not many cars that has front-mid engine design and its gear box is the best on the market to date....not BMW, not Porsche ever came close yet....

EDIT: as far as I remember S2000 beat Ferrari in hp per litter and redline game as well (120hp per liter and 9k redline)

And the S2000 CR only had about 1400 models built.

I would say the standard S2k is way more rare than a M3 or 335.

For some reason all this talk of S2000's reminds me of this:

A lot more S2k's than either S54 powered M Coupe. They're cool cars, but not all that rare. But yes, a great gear lever feel.

That one is rare too, they were only made for 3 year I think (66 for sale currectly on cars.com)

I had E46 M3 and e92 335i, I think S2k is a better car but lacking in luxury feel and power.

Yes but a lot of "making driving easier" is also "making it more dull."

Electric seats, folding mirrors, sunroofs, electronic handbrakes; all pointless and usually heavy.

M cars are particularly guilty of being weighed down by pointless gimmicks because despite owners claiming to be uber purists, they can't live without 28 way electric seats, eyelash curlers and wrist warmers.

I assume this AP2 is some option package they got because I know they made a lot more S2000s than that here. I guess I should start calling my Z06 rare because not many in my color were made.
Oh & my daily Speed6 must be rare since they only made them for 2 years. C'mon guys.

& you mentioned nothing about luxury, but we already knew the S2000 is not a luxury car.

They made total of 66k cars in USA from 1999, total of about 100k cars worldwide. (3-series production numbers are in millions) AP2 are ones made after redesign in 2004 its not an option package. There were about 385k C5 made during that time.

People want those cars and they are not made anymore, thats why it goes up in value while 99% of other cars decrease.

Its not rare, its more rare then all other mass production cars thats all. Its special and wanted by everyone for other reasons I listed.

Just as reference, there were less than 700 S54 Z3 M Coupes in the US and 1,800 Z4 MC's, which helps explain their market price.

Also see the 1M, Z8, Porsche Boxster Spyder and Audi TT-RS for low volume cars that hold their value quite well.

But rare is sometimes not appealing. See the Acura ZDX. 6,200 sold over six years.

166k IS a mass produced car. You know this, right? Just because value stays or goes up, does not make it rare. EVERYONE doesn't want one.

100k total, not 166k, and yes I obviously know it's mass production. I said it's not even close to all other cars that are also in mass production. Rare meaning you don't see one on streets and it's not as easy to buy as others in good condition for a good price.

Funny thing is all the BMW mechanic that I know are all drive honda or subaru and maybe keep a porsche but will never own any bmw. They all willing to pay 10 grand for a 9X civic or DC2 but not $500 for a E46
