Alright, laugh if you want, but i have a noob question about tires. Recently up some PSS's for the M3. After an autocross session of 6 runs, in 15*C weather my front tires look like a mess. it looks like the rubber is melted into some of the siping in the tire and in some places, the rubber looks like gum stuck onto the surface of the tread. Is this normal? After a few weeks of city driving the worst of it wears off.

air is forced through the radiator and some is evacuated under the car in the slit in the undertray. some makes its way past the engine and escapes underneath near the headers/firewall.
i took out my passenger side hood grommet plug, so some lets out there. transmission cooler lets out right behind it in the front passenger side wheel well. intake is flushed with cool air and lets out at the driver's side hood vent.

if the undertray is missing, air simply hits the radiator and most flows beneath it and escapes under the car (path of least resistance). that is why people with damaged or missing undertrays overheat or run hot.

i'm not entirely convinced i "need" this heat reflective covering, but it is marginally functional and it was fun to do. plus, when i beat someone by .2 seconds, i get to tell them it was the heat wrap.

Yes normal for street tires to do that.

Interesting. I'll have to look into doing this.

My car is missing the felt covered plastic so I'm keeping a close eye on the temps. Right now I've got hot air coming into my vents but I think it's due to me removing the cabin filter tray that sits under the hood in front of the windshield on top of the brake reservoir.

This argument was beaten to death on the evo forums. I think if you can get "fresh" air passing over the foil to remove the ambient air it might work to help keep the plastic cooled. Otherwise the air doesn't sit inside the intake arm long enough to be heated by it.

I had 50% tread left on PSS. After one day of autocross they were done. I would not use PSS for autocross unless you plan on killing them They just don't hold up to repeated stress very well.

I bought an 8' cable from radio shack so it would reach

I fed the mic through the rubber grommet next to the battery so it sits under the bumper outside the car to catch the exhaust note.

Just pinch the grommet at the top where it connects to the hood. It doesn't damage it and it is easily put back.
On hot days you can see hot air dumping out of it at stoplights. It allows for the main fan to push air out easier.

Hmmm, ever since replacing my DCT transmission fluid with Motul, once the oil gets up to temperature, first gear is pretty jerky - like it slams the clutch in, when moving from a stop. Interestingly, if I specifically set the car to neutral, then move from neutral to first, then go, it doesn't do this behavior.

Finished up the wrap job. Can't hardly see any gold when everything is together. Part of the engine bay gets a nice gold hue when in the sunlight though.

That CF intake is stock though, right? I don't see your CARB EO number anywhere.
