I bought this couple days back, the seller fitted it for me as we are in the same city, everything works fine. As i mentioned couple of posts back i was having gps issues, but that seems to have been resolved now after i updated the unit to the latest version. the unit itself works flawlessly and the seller is really helpful and friendly.

I'm in manchester. Spotify works like a treat. I was talking to the seller about the android screen as well but honestly not worth the extra money. For the first time in 3 years, my car screen is actually doing something useful finally lol.

im pretty sure the units don't have their own gps.

iirc this was an issue on the wired carplay boxes at one point, but this is the first ive seen it on the wireless (unless it was present on the initial software)

strange, ive never had any issues in carplay gps at all with my 11 pro max on any software version or my wifes 8 plus and her newer 11

After i updated to the latest andream version, it seems to have fixed now. Hoping it stays that way.

I read somewhere that if maps is running on carplay, then my wife for example cant use my phone for like facebook because that will take away from the maps running on carplay ? is that true? maybe thats whats causing intermittent gps signals for me?

Also read if i set destination on my phone maps first and then connect to carplay, it will keep the gps signal better. is that myth or maybe an actual thing ?

What do you mean you want spotify? As in, be able to stream spotify from your phone to play out of your car speakers?

Or have spotify built into the headunit somehow?

So I have id4 2014 which isn't compatible with the latest version of bmw connected app. The old app doesn't support Spotify.

I originally started to look at these mmi units but the dpi on the android auto put me off and the calls being routed via the mmi unit instead of the bmw unit. Although I'd use the USB mode if I got one.

I then thought if I get the android head unit I can download Spotify app direct to unit and no need to connect the phone to it at all... also advantage i can use bm3 app on the headunit and map the car from it too. Lol

so if you used wired connection for carplay , it would continue to use idrive bluetooth for calls?

if you are ok using a simcard with the android unit or running a hotspot from your phone then it sounds like you are better off with the android unit then a mmi

in my experience that isn't true. my wife has used my phone while carplay is connected and apple maps was navigating and there was no issue on my end

the only annoying thing at all with using the connected phone while its connected to carplay is sometimes the music/sound from an app being used on the phone will start playing while music is streaming

i have started nav on my phone and on carplay and seen no difference in performance.

if the software update seems to fix, i would just see how it goes and hope that the issue is resolved

yes the mmis have airplay built in. It's mostly fullscreen but the aspect ratio is not the same so there are some gaps on the side when mirroring (at least for me)

This was true for the very original versions of CarPlay, but not true since iOS 13.

New set of Andream updates on the way - just been advised by Andream they are sending me something.

Also I have been made aware that andream are aware of and are browsing this thread regularly hope it can yield some results.
