That is bull crap comparing 12 year old car to a brand new one. Don't know what they want to prove that ford fiesta is as good as 12 year old cars ? lol

Would you rather see used Ford GT40 vs new M3?

So we're either douche bags or racers. Sweet! I guess I'm a douche bag since I haven't tracked yet.

I work for ford motor company, and there are quite a few guys that own a fiesta st. After speaking to them about it they absolutely love it. They pretty much said it was probably the best drivers car they ever owned.

Here check this article out from our web site:

Since driving the Fiesta and later the Focus ST, I'm convinced Ford has hit the sweet spot. With that being said, my wife, [also a Dyed-In-The Wool-Bimmer-Believer] and I leased a Ford Escape to take on the task to be our daily driver.

Exactly. It's as good as a 12yr old sports car. Take that for what it's worth.

Have you shopped E46 prices lately? A "nice" E46 is going for more than $16K. I think the rise in E30 M3 prices has pushed a lot of the used M3 market on to the E46 models, which has driven prices up. If you want to buy a high-mileage car with a worn interior, sure, but a nice E46 with reasonable mileage is going to cost you $20K or more.

I do agree that $25K is on the high end though. I've seen low-mileage collector-owned cars going for mid to high 20s.

man I am good driving my M3 as it is pleasure to drive that thing any given day. I know ford is a good car but nothing comapared to M3 in drive pleasure alone. VW GTI beated that thing in comparison this year maybe that is better car for that money (I own GTI too). If some one offer you one of those car which one will you chose, I guess you know the answer. Nothing against the car and we enthusiast appreciate when companies try to come up with good cars.

Don't get me wrong, I would get the M3 in a second.

Think of it this way - The E9X M3 is similar to the Ferrari F355 in terms of overall performance and likely outperforms it in many ways. Don't you think F355 owners would have the same reaction when they test the two head to head with one being a decade older? It's the same concept.

The whole purpose of this exercise is ridiculous. It proves nothing. We might as well start comparing a current Taurus SHO vs. E39 M5 or any other combination of older BMW's vs current day vehicles if their prices are similar. The whole premise is silly.

I just love the stereotyping that BMW's get. In my experience, the person who is doing the stereotyping is usually the biggest D-Bag of all.

It's a study on perspective and was not trying to "prove" anything. It's so easy to get this crowd really upset.

I think this comparison is just a classic example of taking an average car making it fun a viable to nip at the heels of something known and respected like an e46. Will it have the legacy of the e46...no never.
I seem to remember the Sierra Cosworth giving the legendary E30 a run for it's money in sallon car racing back in the day and there are plenty of "legendary" fords in Europe, Escort RS1800, RS2000, Twin Cam, Lotus Cortina, RS200, the list goes on, They just never make it Stateside. Every Ford made in Europe for the last 20 years wins every group test they're in because they are an amazing driving machine, even the small/diesel engined ones.

We've had them for years, The states are just beginning to benefit from that development now with the 'World Cars' they're making now.

Hell they don't even rust anymore which is more than can be said for the E46!

People complaining about people complaining whatever the point of this test was we can all agree it was a no brainer for most of us which car we would buy. That e46 came nicely modded as well almost ready to go for the track which was nice. Car looked pretty clean as well. A more proper comparison was "should I buy a brz/frs or e36 m3". Had more purpose and created good discussion

I think a more accurate representation of car vs. car would be a 2014 stingray vs. '74 2002.

I give ford props for building a fun to drive car. Something BMW has been struggling with lately...
