In fairness, the new Prius is pretty slick looking. I've seen a couple in the wild now.

I really like the exterior and the design of the interior, but not too keen on the all touch BS. Imagine this car and interior and a perfect harmony of touch and physical buttons…
Some of the UI features like Instgram notices, customization of sound etc. Who cares? People should fiddle around less with UI and phones while driving and focus on driving. I would welcome a technology that makes the use of your phone while driving impossible or that you would get an extremely annoying sound when the car ”sees” that your are texting and whatnot while driving. I see too many drivers on the road looking at their phones while driving.
The irony is they are putting in panoramic vision, HUD etc so you keep your eyes on the road, but then they go all touch, add so many features and things to the UI that makes people look at the centre screen instead. Not only BMW, but all brands.

There are 8 ICE SUVs in the lineup. So 6 more needed on top of iX and iX3. (XM isn't an EV)

Tesla is an appliance. It’s not a car. It’s junk slap together with glue. Rivian, Porsche, Audi and BMW are Real car manufactures, trying to create a difference.

If you bought a Tesla that’s fine but Tesla people are not car people and that’s just how it is. There’s a bazillion Teslas in my neighborhood where I live and the people who drive them are not interested in styling or performance or handling.. they are only interested in electrical appliances feel.

Very exciting for BMW. This feels like BMW is back.

EV's are appliances. The only real difference is build quality and suspension. Otherwise, why would you buy a less efficient washer or dryer?

For better or for worse Tesla really got the ball rolling on mass produced EVs. They are indeed a “real” manufacturer using truly cutting edge technologies. While I’m less than impressed with their autos in terms of fit and finish, Tesla’s UI is unbeaten.

I am happy to see BMW and others finally stepping up to the plate with competitive products but I do find it interesting that BMW seems to be adopting a nuanced approach to Tesla’s single screen interface. Perhaps Tesla had something figured out before everyone else. I suspect we’ll see the same thing with megacasting manufacturing processes in the years to come. I may not like everything Tesla does but they are true innovators…for better or for worse.

Competition is a good thing and I hope BMW’s new EV’s hit a home run!

The panel gaps in a Tesla are like a wardrobe - if you stick your hand in, you’ll end up in Narnia.

I bought a Tesla and owned it for 4 years. I am a die hard petrolhead and owned a 911 Turbo at the same time. yes, it is junk, but you'd be surprised at how well it drives. Certainly more than enough to have fun on the daily commute.

So....maybe you should reconsider that there may be other Tesla owners outside of that stereotype (not saying there aren't those owners, there are plenty who just want the appliance). But not all. not by a long shot.

Yeah, totally unfair to say Tesla buyers aren’t “car people.” I had a model 3 performance and in track mode it was far more capable than the i4M50.

Overall, I like the exterior design. I just wish cars would stop moving towards the "less is more" simplistic interiors. I prefer interiors with physical buttons and have technology integrated into the design rather than the design being technology itself.

Are you referencing Tesla only or BMW also. The Neue Klasse also appears to have minimal physical buttons. The industry is going this direction. My 87 year old father didn’t want push button start on his new car, but he was forced to acquiesce to a new reality. This will likely happen with physical buttons….on all cars. Resistance is Futile!!

As much as I like a physical button, you adapt to it rather quickly. I just took delivery of a R1S in January. The only issue for me is when I jump into my F82 or another vehicle in my stable and forget the process. Honestly, the M4 feels like a farce in engineering compared to the Rivian. It's caveman tech with a turbo versus electric power and super computers. I drive the M4 less each and everyday. But, I still enjoy taking it out and drifting through turns.

The solution is simple, if it's a daily driver/only vehicle you own, DO NOT GET AN ELECTRIC CAR.

Same here. I looks like a watered town / tamer & yet more civilized / classy version of the XM in some ways. I like where the team is going with this & if the production version can match the concept unit, I have a feeling resale values of the mundane TESLA are going to eventually take a large dent at some point. Glad the see the bright minds at BMW stepping up to the beautiful EV plate & swinging for the fences. This has great potential & hope it delivers on more then just great styling!

Physical buttons will return as “The European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) has announced that starting in 2026, vehicles that don't have physical buttons for core functions will receive lower safety scores. The NCAP has said that essential controls, like hazard lights and turn signals, must be operated by physical buttons, not touchscreens, to achieve a 5-star crash rating.”

BMW is delusion thinking that voice control and iPad will be sufficient. Voice control for iDrive 8.5 with the MGH22 headunit still lacks natural voice recognition and is 💩. Do they think they will just flip a switch and natural voice control will all of sudden work?

Teslas are great cars. I've had mine 7 years now. It's super convenient, comfortable and especially low cost to maintain. I don't understand the hate. Most people who drive cars are not car enthusiasts. That's true of most BMW drivers too who are also just looking for a (fancy) appliance and there is nothing wrong with that.
