Woodcliff Lake, NJ – November 3, 2014… Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 11 percent in October for a total of 30,602 compared to 27,574 vehicles sold in October, 2013. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is up 12 percent on sales of 267,193 compared to 238,469 sold in the first ten months of 2013.

so the 2-series can barely outsell the final year of the 1-series which had ceased production already. what a flop.

It's too expensive. Most people just get a 3er with more options instead. Imo the 2er needs to stay in the low 30s. It's a shame that a well optioned m235 is 50k

The % increase is substantial, so I'm not sure how you are looking at it. Compared to the growth on the 3-Series it's not as good, but year over year and month over month increase of 9% and 14% is great growth in a mature market.

Funny that they stopped production of the 1 for THAT.

LOL Go order a M235 at a dealer and laugh when they tell you they are 3 month backlogged for your configuration. They are selling more 2 series than they thought they would and if BMW saw that % increase every YOY they would be jumping for joy.

I do agree with the post about buying a 3 series instead- however for those BMW fanatics that LOVE SMALLER CARS- the 2 series and the M235 in particular are like no other.

that's nothing...when i had inquired about ordering a 135i back in 2008...it was 6-8 month backlog for orders....

the real reason the 2er is in low supply is not demand...it's because of i3 production going up and the factory has been retooled for that car's increased production demands. the 2 isn't selling anyways so it's no real loss for BMW.

Well I guess we will see as neither of us know if that was lagging 1 series sales as they quit making them- or new 2 series sales that spiked double digit growth
but I am thinking it is because of the 2 series. My wifes 135i Convertible was retail at 52k- her new M235 on order is 55k and the M235 is a better car by every metric you could list. The 3 series is just too big (perfect for many but not so much for the MANY that have bought 3 series in the past because of their smaller size being a major factor) But we will see how it shakes out but the 2 series is a very important car to BMW and I predict the M2 will be the hit of the M cars (next to the amazing M4 which may be the best of all current M's.)

In this thread:
The logic that a 23% increase in YoY YTD sales is a flop.

This forum always delivers. IIRC, the 2-Series sells in similar numbers to what the 1-Series did in the US, but what do I know? I'm not some butthurt 1-Series fanboy who's upset they axed his model.

As soon as the m2 comes out, no one will really care about the m4. I think you'll see a lot of m4 sales drop in exchange for the m2. In my eyes, the m2 is the proper evolution of the e46m3

Cant disagree with you there and dynamically you will probably be correct- however as BMWs have gotten bigger - I think the M4 (and M3 for those wanting 4 doors) are perfect sizes and options for those who still may think the M2 will be too small. But as far as "heritage" goes, and probably physical dynamics too- the M2 is spot on- as far as just a bad ass car that has a bit more road presence - the M4 is absolutely perfect. Id pick the M4 and I LIKE smaller cars. Its like choosing between two supermodels or picking your favorite song?

How big does a car really need to be? Do you really have to carry your whole fucking house with you every time you walk out the door?

LOL well not that a house would fit in my 435 Gran Coupe or a 3 series but you do get more room and BMW sales figures will tell you that GO BIG or GO HOME has made them a ton of cash - now it is time to backfill the line with the smaller ones- upcoming 1 sedan and the all the "2" variants- 228, convert, M2, M235 etc...

+1. but bmw board does not have the balls porsche managm has and making the cayman a better drivers car than the 911. the M2 will be awesome and along side an i3 its the only bmw i would buy in the current lineup BUT i am sure bmw will tone it down (and i am not talking about power but driving dynamics) to keep the M4 superior

3-Series now is a perfect size for me (incremental gains over the E90 hit the sweet spot for me). Rear seat gives me the space for taller passengers and business trips with co-workers. Child seat fits back there easily as well without having to compromise front seating position. Front seats have the headroom and leg room for comfort etc. I'm also a stickler about 4 doors. So the 3-Series is perfect as a "useful" car for me. The 2-Series is awesome and I loved the 1-Series as well. But it's a third car for me between the tighter back seat and 2-door configuration.

So I am curious now. If the new 3 series is finally a perfect size for you, what didn't work with regards to the old model 5 series for you? It's the logical progression.

with that logic, then bmw would have toned down the m4 to make the m6 superior. i think they are just growing too large in size. the new F3x/8x series cars are e39 sized. im pretty sure ill take a 1er msport with a turbo 4 and awd sedan before i get an f30. i dont use my trunk as a storage device like most people. there is literally nothing in my car right now unless i use it for a trip (skiing or to the lake)

I do think that the 2-series is overpriced. The 228i should start at below $30k, so that you can buy a nicely equipped one for less than $35k. A nicely equipped M235i should be $42k max.
