It's still a nice shot and shows off the action of the city very nicely.
I think that lens was maxed out. I kinda wished I brought my tripod, but I really didn't feel like lugging it around.

In that situation, don't be afraid to raise the ISO up and apply noise reduction. I probably would have shot that at ISO 6400, unless I had my tripod with me.

NR doesn't really crush detail in the well lit parts of a high-ISO shot. Here's one at 6400, with supplemental light by the iPhone:

Nice.

I keep the hoods on my big guys, better to avoid some limb scratching one.

According to the EXIF, that was shot with the 50mm f1.8 set at f3.5. That's two full stops. If the aperture had been set to f1.8, you could have bumped the shutter speed to 1/60 and avoided (or at least decreased) the camera shake blur. With a T3i I'm not sure you could have pushed beyond the ISO 3200 you were set at without incurring a lot more noise. I know my T1i couldn't handle 6400. In low light situations like that, and with the distance to the subject you had, shooting wide open would yield better results.

On the T3i, try shooting low light shots in AV mode and keep the aperture set to f1.8. Watch your shutter speed and try to keep it above 1/40 or 1/50.

Also, Photoshop has a cool Shake Reduction filter that worked pretty nicely here. I added a bit of Clarity and some light NR.

Thanks, DC. That's the biggest improvement I've seen the Shake Reduction filter make. Goes to show the image was in focus but just had some shake.

Awesome sharpness there, Rodny. Nice shot.

I keep them with me, but I find them too unwieldy when trying to shoot from inside the car. Both of my big whites we're purchased used with a bit of wear and tear to begin with, but I'm pretty careful with the front elements.

Something that needed to be munched, I suspect. Not something I'd want crawling on me. Good on the bird.

Nice pic, btw. What is that bird? Nice array of colors.

Nice shot, rem. That's my next lens. The Tokina 16-28 is ok, but it won't take filters. And that IS has to come in handy for indoor shooting.

I bought a new printer a month or so ago, and finally set it up this weekend, so I was going through some old pics to print to put up at work. I've been practicing with color management and such with 5X7's so I don't use up all my ink while still figuring it out.
