11' M3 vs. 13' 650i vert? Already have a weekend car, which is better daily driver?
I currently drive a 997tt as my weekend car and a 02 LS430 as my daily. My wife drives a Q7 which is the family hauler. I'm looking to replace my daily within a year. Originally I was thinking of just getting another sedan for practicality reasons but since I will not need to take the kids to school maybe I would get a convertible and enjoy the sun a little being in Los Angeles. I would only put 5-10 miles a day(all city driving) on the car and driving the 997tt to work is not an option.
Which would be the better daily driver? My requirement for a daily driver is <$45k, auto trans, and 4 seater. I was also looking at the dimension of the 11' M3 vs. the 13' 650i and the rear seats of both cars are almost the same size. How is that possible with the 650i being such a big car? http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/m3/2011/c...eatures-specs/ http://www.edmunds.com/bmw/6-series/...eatures-specs/ |

Why buy a M3 to putter around the street? A 650 is definitely the better way to go.

Get a E93 M3! Best of both worlds. I personally hate rag tops
I have the aluminum window trim on mine wrapped black. 95% people have no idea its a convertible then the top is on and its a blast when the top is down Heres mine |

I did have a chance to drive a 13' M6 coupe and it did feel pretty big inside the car. I imagine the 650i will feel less powerful and nimble. I think the m3 has the edge because of the DCT trans. It must be a great driving experience paired with the V8 and top down. Ever since I sold my E39 M5(deleted rear exhaust cans but kept resonators) for the 997tt I miss the v8 sound.

You will still miss the v8 sound in the e9x M3. That extra liter of displacement really helps with sound. If you are looking to replicate the sound of the M5, the 650 is a better choice, IMO. Definitely make sure you take both cars out for a spin before pulling the trigger on either.

Two completely different cars, do you want comfort and quiet or tight loud and great exhaust note.
I love my E93 but its a much more touchy car the the 650i which is a luxury cruiser. Also the 650i will be effortless to drive, to get the E93 moving you need to rev it all the time, I LOVE doing that but its also not my only car so it doesnt bore me. I know when I switch to my 740i it drives so easily, the 650 has way more power then that, its more of a step on the gas and just go car. I agree with the other poster, if you get the E93 wrap the trim, it makes a world of difference.

Owned both at the same time. Loved my F12 however no interior space beyond (1) additional passenger. The 650 is a great GT for 2. Top down TTV8 presents a cool effortless driving experience. I used to also like rolling with the top up, side and rear windows rolled down for that "cabriolet" look/feel.
My problem with the 6 was anytime i wanted to take my then 18month old son for a ride, installing his Recaro Car seat in the back didn't leave much room for a front passenger. We ended up taking out the e92 when we wanted to drive as a family in something other than an SUV or sedan. Because my F12 wasn't driven much, although it drove great and was a vert, I got more enjoyment and practicality out of the E92, which is why it remains and I sold the 650. 1 last thing that might be considered nit picking. The 6er for some reason doesn't have rear vents. While the E92 has rear vents, reading lights, additional interior lights, arm rest, etc.. all missing from BMW's "top of the line" coupe and convertible.

Tough call here.
An 11 M3 is not that great as an around the town car. And the 650 isn't a practical 4 seater. Its large on the outside and long in the front interior. The real seats are a joke. The M3 isn't a huge difference in rear space in coupe or vert form, but it is larger. But you also have the option of a E90 M3. So if you do not intend of having passengers in the back, I'd say 650 as it is more comfortable, luxurious, and drives better around town. |
