2008 M3 Transmission Issues
Like the title says, I'm having issues with my transmission. The symptoms are as followed:
-1,3,5 are pretty easy to find, however, 2,4,6 are near impossible to engage - When in gear, the entire shift stick has 3-5 inches of horizontal play -The shift stick about 2-4 inches of vertical play -Looking under the center panel reveals the shift lever disconnected from the selector rod Now here's the kicker, the shop I brought it to says that the shift lever is not whats disconnect but rather something else (gave me a vague explanation). Some part needs to be screwed into the tranny. Also, the transmission will need to be dropped. I think the shop may be wrong with their diagnosis. Considering these variables, Does anyone have any suggestions on what might be going on? |

I've not heard of this exact scenario, but there is another guy with even gear issues somewhat similar, I think on the General side of the forum.

what makes you say that? Anyone that's driven a manual would "presume" after reading OP's first post that it was a 6mt.
The DCT has been very reliable with these cars.

OP should upgrade to DCT .
At first it sounds like the shifter bushings are trash and needs replacing, but if something is missing that can cause it too I guess. Can you have him tell you which part in this picture is missing? Part #12 is the Rod Joint that attaches to the transmission, the selector rod #10 connects the Rod Joint to the Shifter Lever. I can't see #12 coming off on it's own.

Part numbers 28607842856, and 28107842385. It's under 200$ to replace both. I understand you're upset you purchased the slower M3. Exaggeration to make a point won't help OP, but I guess you feel better now.

I will take a true manual over an automatic car any day of the week. I won't check this thread again. Good day. |
