It's amusing how people rush to judgement on a concept - both those who 'want one' and those who can't seem to rationalize a car that doesn't burn fossil fuels. This is only a CONCEPT car.

I find the concept reassuring. If things change fast enough and we're all buying some kind of alternative fuel car in 6 or 7 years, I'll likely still be able to buy another 1 series. So, I'm happy.

good concept..
However, I think the 100 mile range is just too short.. and 3 or 4.5 hrs charging time is way too long.. only if they can fit a small internal combustion engine in the car to generate electricity for the battery packs as a backup source...

Oh the noise! Seriously though, I'd say that 50% of the driving experience for me is the great noise that I get when I floor it and that is just completely missing with an electric car.

Maybe they can install some speakers with options for M3 V8 or M5 V10 engines?

This is so stupid.

It should be 1800 ***LBS***.

Then you'd get some real range and acceleration out of that little electric system.

Keep the same looks/size. Just make it CF and get rid of all of the friggin crash armor.

Make it rigid instead - so it bounces-off instead of absorbing/crushing. Like an F1 race car tub.

I like how the nav is not a second hump like on the E92s. I'm not sure if its even like that on the 1 series.

I can only see 100 miles per charge good for the daily work commute. What if you wanted to go out of town for the weekend?

What ever happened to the Hydrogen 7? I saw one of those on the 101N a few months ago..

Production of Hydrogen worldwide is the reason for this, look how long electric cars took before they caught on, the infrastructure needs to be put in place before a mass roll out from any manufacturer.

This is a concept so not all the kinks have been worked out. It would most likely end up beign similar to the Chevy Volt, where the first portion of it's range would run entirely on electricity while braking, etc would renew the energy available to extend range. Once the total power gets to under 20% a small 3 cylinder (or the like) gasoline engine would kick in and help out.

Electric vehicles seem to be a short-range option at the moment. That's fine for the majority of drivers. Portland, Oregon actually has a number of electric fill up stations around the city, so you can pull up, 2 cars at a time, and plug your cars in for a few hours while you explore the city, only to come back and have your vehicle ready to go.

That's something they're working on now. Currently the "pump" is setup on the side of the road with two parking spots in front of it. The cord is only long enough to reach those spots, so assuming there are two vehicles charging nobody would be able to snag your juice. They're working on different types of lock boxes, etc currently. The best solution I've seen is having to enter your card to allow access to the plug. Once the plug is disconnected from the power flow to the car, the electricity stops until another card is inserted. I've read a good article on the different options they're thinking of but can't seem to find it at the moment.
