In 1971 I was looking for a smaller, more fun to drive car than my big '68 Ford LTD. I had never heard of BMW, but ended up buying a slightly used 1970 BMW 2002. That started it all.

I am now on BMW #13 and my current M3 Sedan, M-DCT is one of the best ones ever.

My mom had a E39 530i M-Sport. It was too small for me, and I thought it was a bit too slow, but whenever I was home, I'd drive it around, and, even though I didn't LOVE it, I respected it. It was beautiful, it handled like nothing else in its class, and it was just plain fun. My dad had always had more expensive cars and more luxurious cars but my mom's 530i was the first car I ever rode in that felt special from the DRIVERS seat.

I wasn't planning to get a BMW when I was looking for my next car. I drove the S2k but it was too small and impractical. The Z, which felt like bloated and low quality after driving the S2k. The S4 with the engine I couldn't mod and the M3 which felt outdated. I had been driving my mom's car around one day when I saw a 330ci. I wondered to myself when the next 3 series coupe would come out and what'd it'd have under the hood and look like. Strangely enough, it was only a couple days before speculation hit E90post.com about a twin turbo 6. For a kid who grew up spending way too much time salivating over cars, it seemed like destiny. I honestly couldn't love my car more.

The local Honda dealer wanted me to wait 3 months for an S2000, so I got a slightly used Z4 3.0si instead. Less hardcore, but never regretted. A year later I got a 330xd as the "winter car" - the two look nice together in the garage :-)

I had a lot of bmw "moments" before I was of driving age but the biggest one was during a party my parents were throwing at my house when i was about 10 and a family friend asked if i wanted to go take a ride in his car because he knew that i liked cars. It turned out he had a gorgeous big black 740il ('94) and even when sitting still in the driveway, i knew it was something special compared to my parents sl560 and sel560. I remember thinking i had never seen such a cool looking "cockpit-ish" interior and loved how everything was covered in black leather with stitching on the dashboard and center console between the seats. As he drove normally down the streets, ill never forget how he was in mid-sentence when all of the sudden he floored it without warning and i was pinned in a seat for the first time ever. To me at that age it felt like he got up to 200mph when he really probably got up to 80 but i was hooked. He slowed down but went on to drive very briskly on the twisty road back to my house which sealed the deal. When we pulled into my driveway he told me not to say what we had done to my parents, that it was our little secret. When i got my learners permit and started driving my parents cars, i tried to re-create the same experience on the same roads without any luck and wouldn't be able to until i got my beloved 330. Fast forward to now and I'm not only a BMW owner for life, but also do marketing work for BMW in california!

for me, it was my dad driving me around in his E30 325i when I was a little boy, and the smile he had on his face whenever we would go out and how highly he always spoke of BMW. Which prompted me to buy my first car: a 2002 330Ci and also my second car: a 2006 M5

This was a great idea for a thread. I liked reading the stories.

I became a member of a Canadian car forum, and there were knowledgeable folks there that really piqued my interest in BMWs... Then reviews like those from Car & Driver and especially my test drives sealed the deal for me.

I've always found the E46 M3 to be the most gorgeous car on the planet... and I loooooved the 2007-2010 E92 coupes, so...

(I may still get an used E46 M3 one day (as a fun, second car or something)... but I need to re-learn to drive a manual first, heh.)

My dad always hated BMWs. People would show him their brand new E23s and E30s and he would comment about how they are underengineered over priced POS. He sorta passed that down onto me.

I live near a BMW dealer and one day in early 08 I saw a 135i sitting on the showroom floor. Thats when it started really...

I have been in love with BMW since I was 6 years old..

my grandma in law, had a 6 series coupe, in old lady GOLD. White Interior.

I remember getting in it the first time, smelling the leather mixed with that standard grandma perfume... the second we pulled out of the driveway and granny put her foot down, I was hooked. The sound it made gave me goosebumps and the ride was perfect. Granny knew how to drive and bought a BMW for this reason apartment. Ever since then, ive been hooked.

I dreamed of getting a BMW (i grew up very poor) and never thought it would happen. But finally, when I was `18 i bought my first BMW, actually my first car, a 2007 328i e90. I walked in to the dealer, stood in the middle of the giant lot....

THAT ONE! i pointed.

Drove it home that night and rubbed it down with a diaper lol

I will never drive another car in my life. Thank you BMW, Your the shit.

My first memory of a BMW was my older brother's Matchbox model of a 1960 507 roadster. At the time, I thought it was so different from my dad's VW Beetle. I pretty much watched "Moonlighting" for the 635 CSi that Bruce Willis & Cybil Shepherd drove on the show. Then what really lit the fire was a 1989 BMW M3. The old Long Beach BMW dealership had one parked right outside their main showroom. I never failed to get off my bike and I checked it out every chance I got. I own an Avus Blue E-36 M3, an E-83 X3 and our current daily driver is our 2010 Monaco Blue335d. We traded in our SG328i for the diesel. I recently sold my seldom used Laguna Seca Blue E-46 M3 to a friend.

Back in grade school and high school, I hated Bmws. I had no idea why all these kids liked 'em. I was a Lexus fan boy till 17 because my dad had a Ls400 and then GS300. Nway, right when high school was ending my dad bought my mom an e46 323i. She didn't enjoy driving it much in the winter up here so I got to drive it most of the time.

Thats all it took really. The engine on that thing, the way the inline 6 reevvved for ever, the cockpit slightly angled towards u, how light the car was... everything about it was irresistible. Right after that, I got e39 530i which I still think is one of the best handling sedans ever. Then the e60 528i and now finally the e92 335i. The e92 is hands down the best of 'em all but I miss the naturally aspirated inline 6...probably the reason why the e46 M3 is still considered one of the best bimmers of this geneneration (well that and those beautiful wheel arches

I'm not sure if I'll continue to be able to afford a bimmer in the coming years but all i can say is I've truly enjoyed 'em over the last 12. And if this turns out to be my last BMW, well then, Thank You Jesus.

my dad always loved them, and i remember he bought a 3er for my youngest aunt (20 at the time) and a 5er for my other aunt. one day, he rolled in with a new 7 (in dec '01 or jan '02, cant remember) and it was a beauty... it was such a car! then, i test drove a 335i and couldnt get over it... it had power, looks, and a feel that no other car gives. truly a driver's car and i dont think i will ever change route

I pulled up on a 3 series at the light in my newly purchased 06 350z. I jumped on it and he immediately pulled 3 cars LOL. After speaking to the guy at the next light, he told me it was a Dinan S2 335i biturbo. I did my research and never looked back. Best DD I have ever owned.

my first experience was when i was living in a homeless shelter when i was a kid and one of the guys that use to volunteer there use to always drive this sweet lookin bmw. so one day when i was outside he came up to me and said to come with him he wanted to show me something and took me for a ride. from there on i was in love. needless to say we both got in trouble because i left and he took me but the ride was awesome. my second experience was when i was homeless again when i grauated highschool and this lady who took me in her daughter had a sweet lookin 3 series. she use to pay me to wash it up for her. and man was that thing awesome. it had all the bells and whistles. after those 2 experiences it made it 2 promises to myself:

1. never be poor again
2. make enough money to afford a bmw

and now i have my 2008 335xi i bought brand new. we shall never part lol.

What got me into BMWs? At first, I didn't really pay much attention to them. My dad got a 2004 E60 530i as a company car. I couldn't ever drive it due to the whole company car insurance thing and I didn't know much about it; the name "BMW" didn't really matter all that much to me. I just knew that it was nice and probably pretty quick.

Then one day my mom let me sneak out and drive it with her since she knew that I've always wanted to drive it due to the "forbidden fruit" factor. I instantaneously fell in love with it the second I turned the wheel. The steering weight was perfect; the acceleration was so linear and I felt like I was going 20 mph when I was going 50 mph. It felt so planted to the road and its steering feel was just nothing short of perfect.

My friend got a 2006 E90 328i from his parents after his Jetta died. I drove it and couldn't figure out the difference between the E60 and the E90; the interior was strangely similar, the steering feel was just as perfect, but it certainly was smaller and more nimble. I then decided that all BMWs must be built with such awesome handling and steering feel from the two that I was able to drive.

Basically that's what got me into BMWs

A drunk driver totalling my Pathfinder on Halloween helped. I test drove every single sports car under $60K and landed on the 135i. I HAVE to have forced induction at 6,100ft. So that helpes to limit the choices. Owned too many damn Subarus and needed a change, couldn't afford a GT-R or Porsche, and I wanted to buy new. Almost bought a new S4, but priced the way I wanted it, I couldn't justify it right now, maybe in the future, of course the ///M1 will be out soon!
