Lightbulb 2006 - 2013 BMW Global Sales figures, by Model & Bodystyle

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So, the 2013 BMW Group Annual report is out. Thought it was time to update my spreadsheet!

All figures are taken from BMW Group Quarterly Reports at www.bmwgroup.com

One of the other interesting stats was breakdown of sales by region.

China: 19.9%
USA: 19.2%
Germany: 13.2%
Great Britain: 9.6%
France: 3.3%
Japan:3.3%
Italy: 3%
Other: 28.5%

For comparison purposes, I've also shown some graphs, though I'll leave the analysis and commentary to you guys, and probably SCOTT too. These graphs use the quarterly totals to give greater transparency.

I've been looking for a chart like this for quite some time. Thanks for posting.

The only numbers that really shock me are the X6. For a car with absolutely zero utility, it's selling very well.

I was surprised by that too, along with the much maligned 5er GT outselling a well-liked car such as the 6er coupe.

Seriously, that many people bought an X6!?!??!

It's been no secret how well the X6 has been selling despite the size and utility. If you have been following sales each quarter you would have noticed and it's quite amazing really. Everybody wrote it off calling it nonsense which it probably is but if BMW thinks they could sell, who cares. At the end, BMW was right.

If it is such a globally successful car, please bring the 1er 5-door to the US.

I would buy a 135i 5 door in a heartbeat (assuming it doesn't start at 45k)

The 6 GC is doing really really well considering that it's not taking away numbers from the 5er and 7er.

The GTs numbers is a surprise, how can people like that more than the touring?

There you have proof in regards to the X family of Sport Activity Vehicles and their growth per year and how they are integrating into other segments .

This is why more X models and a MINI PACEMAN successor is coming.
The Active Tourer seems to have enticed an audience the first orders are considerable and we are not even past the launch or at the sales launch yet.
The first BMW model that started something similar was the E53 X5.

BMW has taken the lead of global sales for 2014 so far.

At Beijing we will show a new luxury concept to show further growth in the luxury market. And at villa D'Este in May we will show a new performance orientated concept that looks to the past as well as the future.

The question if those concepts will go in production or you'll build them just for styling purpose.
In Como we've seen some wonderful concepts in the last years, (Zagato Coupe, Gran Lusso coupe, 328 Hommage, M1 Hommage) but those car never went to production.

Can we expect a new car for the Beijing show, or a concept based off the new 7er comming in 2015/2016?

These sales numbers must be highly variable by geograpghy. I have never actually seen an X6 in real life and I see tons and tons of 3 series coupes every day on the freeways here yet the X6 has outsold the 3 series coupe since 2010?

Since less than 2 from every 10 BMW's sold ends up on American roads it would be easy to miss!

It is afterall though a niche product, and not seeing them all over the places adds to their exclusivity.

There are plenty in NJ NY area. I think I've seen 10 different ones in the past year. Even seen the X6M. I'm surprised you don't see that many in CA.

I'm actually quite surprised by a couple of things (must admit I don't follow sales numbers usually):

- 6 GC by far the best selling 6-Series!

- X-series way more popular than the tourings (might see 10 tourings per X here, but Denmark is hysterically crazy with car tax so might explain it)

- X1 the best selling of all X's! Pretty good job!

- Kill those damn GT's!!

- Looks like a pretty good start for the 4-Coupe compared to last many years of 3-Coupe numbers

Scott: TELL BMW to bring the 5-door 1er hatchback to the US market, man! You guys want more 'utility' cars right? Well that's the one that would get plenty of BMW owners getting one as a DD. RWD.....and ideally in the M135i format.

(btw....i know this will never happen, but it's worth a shot!)

Everyone should quit saying that X6 has no utility
It is a lot more utility than X3 with interior room of X5 (trust me, i have 2 toddlers)
It just looks and handles much better than either one of them
There is a reason people still like them even at the end of its production cycle

Well since the 6gc has come out, yoy growth in the 5er saloon is declining in pp and the 7er is actually declining in numbers. Would be good to also have yoy growth % and % of total share of bmw by model next to it. Graphs of % of total sales would also help give more visibility on what the new models mean to existing models as well (along with a total sales line). Fp&a right here.

There's always a pop at the start of a model cycle then a slump at the end. I think the only 3er coupe offering in 2013 was the M3 so you should combine the 4er coupe with that figure. Either way, wait until the 2014 4er figures come out to see the real number.
