B48 - Things to Worry About?
I have a 2018 BMW 330i (F30) with the B48 motor. Mileage is just creeping towards 60k miles/100k kilometres.
What are some of the "common" issues or preventative maintenance items I should start worrying about? Thanks in advance! |

Pretty much everything is covered here https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2061712
I would recommend to keep an eye on the cooling system as it's known for having issues as the car is getting older and the plastic is getting brittle. Apart from that, it's a pretty reliable engine. |

I know in the US there was a recall for the coolant system issue.
At least I got a card in the mail about it but mine went a year earlier and I replaced it myself. Part was $30. Labor was a PITA. |

I had two issues with my 2018 430i. First one was a plastic coolant hose that is covered by a recall. Second one is the plastic oil filter housing that developed a crack, started loosing coolant slowly and then very fast. Car was towed to the dealer. Replacing the housing was not cheap out of warranty.

At about 52k miles my oil filter housing cracked while I was driving and dumped all my coolant out. After inspecting it I noticed the water pump had been leaking along with the cooling line that runs into the turbo (probably why my oil housing failed) . I replaced everything with the updated BMW part numbers and haven’t had any issues since. I would highly recommend swapping out the oil filter housing as preventative maintenance if it’s never been done. There’s also a plastic flange that attaches to the engine block underneath the intake. This is the next part that will fail so I would highly recommend swapping it out for a new oem one or ordering an aluminum one off amazon and making a gasket for it since it doesn’t come with one. I replaced mine with the aluminum and haven’t had any issues so far. Only thing I want to do now is replace the hose that connects onto this flange because I could see some cracks forming. Lmk if you need any part #
