Dodgy Paypal?

I'm selling some wheels on eBay, I've asked in the listing that payment be made COC or BACS once the buyer has viewed and is happy.

However, somebody has messaged me to say - "I'm only able to do PayPal as my bank funds are insufficient."

I tend to not use Paypal much and am concerned this might be a ploy to get the goods and then try and get the Paypal payment returned. Is this a thing still?

Not saying it’s not dodgy, just could be that they want to utilise PayPal credit…

Okay, fair enough. I didn't realise that was a thing to be fair.

Someone wants something but are claiming that they don't have any money.

Walk away.

Agree; eBay for me now needs to be BT upon collection or paid via their Managed Payments etc...

Paypal rarely used if it's small things and payment is sent via F&F

Other than; avoid at all costs IMO

May be true to an extent, for some people.

If the guy had taken a bank loan, for example, I wouldn't have been concerned. It's his liability. But, there are so many stories/experiences of utter chancers/w@nkers on ebay and PayPal obtaining goods and then forcing a return of funds that I use them as little as possible when selling stuff.

Could be a bit fishy but the Klarna/PayPal 0% 3 payment thing is quite popular these days.

I've done it a couple of times when I didn't want to shell out £800 in one lump for tyres.
