Style 397 finish issues

I have a '14 328d touring with 18" 397 style wheels. They have that smokey chrome finish. It appears that the finish is made by applying a clear, smokey coat over a polished silver base layer. Recently the smokey layer is coming off the wheel. I'm wondering if this is a common problem? I actually like the brighter silver look better but right now I'm between 40% to 80% gone on the smoke, depending on the wheel. Would they warranty this? I doubt it but my car is a CPO car so I've got a couple of years left.
