Help, updating the maps fails

I bought an FSC code, and successfully used it. When the maps were updating my son pulled out the USB drive. Now when I try to update it gets to 90% then fails. I found a different download of the map file, and get the same thing.

NBT Evo V, and maps are 2023-1

Anyone know how to get this going? I have tried multiple different jump drives, and two different map files. I am guessing that the maps file in my head unit might have an issue.

The Error I get is "Data on USB device unusable. Please replace USB device and try again"

I have to wonder if your USB thumb drive got corrupted? Reformat it to FAT32 format, copy the map files to it, and try again. If you're uploading the North American maps, you may need to use a 64 GB usb drive.

I have tried four different jump drives. All Fat32, two of them are 64 GB

I suspect both maps files I have are bad. One failed at 8%, and the other fails at 90%. Doesn’t matter which USB drive they are on the failure point is very consistent.

Yeah, it was a struggle to get my maps updated, it is VERY picky on directory structure/file format of the USB drive. Part of it was due to me using a Mac that leaves "extra" hidden copies of the files on the drive, part of it was finding a good utility program to do a "true" 64 GB FAT32 format of the drive (very few can do this), part of it was using the right unzipping tool to decompress the downloaded files, and part of it was me not understanding what files go where on the thumb drive when they had been decompressed. I finally got it right after my 4th attempt, I resorted to using a windows only computer that I had on hand.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll try again using an old windows XP computer I have. It can do FAT32, and has winrar which I have had good luck with in the past.

I formatted a thumb drive as NTFS with NBT Evo and it worked with my map update. I believe the drive was 32 GB. Maybe give it a shot.

Update, I formatted the drive with my old windows computer using command prompt to format to Fat32, used win rar to unzip the file directly to the freshly formatted USB drive, and the update was successful!!!! What a relief!!!

It looks like unzipping files on a Mac doesn’t really work properly, or it could be formatting on the Mac caused it to not work. Either way I don’t think I’m ever updating them again unless I have to.

Awesome glad it worked this time!!

Yeah, Apple computers use a different file structure, and create a bunch of hidden files that are needed for the operating system and finder to work. Unfortunately they make their way on any removable media as well, even though it's not required there, and certainly windows doesn't need them. This is likely what tripped both you and I up with our map update.

At least now we know how to do it correctly, I bought one of those lifetime fsc licenses, so I kept my key and pc setup for future updates.
