Garage List
Brother is heading over there this year. From what local folks in Germany told my wife and I, it's more touristy than real...way overpriced and nowhere near what it should be.

I'd say, if you go...find a small town where it's more down to earth legit than hype.

I've heard the same thing. Went there once in 2015 and it was fun. Heard that cities like Hamburg are not as big and less touristy. However, Munich is the main one and the one that most people visit.

I'll be there again this year, our reservations are for the Hofbräu fest tent. There will be Germans and tourist from all over there. Go, have fun, try not to pass out on the drunk hill out back of the tents. Great food and great beer! Prost!

Thats entirely right, its only a see-and-got-seen for few people, the commercial roller has flattened the cheaper prices for longer times ago and several Germans are visiting it once for getting shocked for lifetime and never returned again.
Others swear on it, that depends maybe onto personal preferences for parties, same thing like heading every year to spring break parties, eh?
Hamburg is a lovely city, not smaller than Munich but got less tourists and worth to visit, got more bridges than Venice and we speak true German there. The Bavarian "Grantlers" are pretty hard to understand...but this is an internal joke^^

If you haven't been there you should go, but locals are going to Festivals (Volksfest) in smaller towns. I grew up in Austria and we always went to the Herbstfest in Rosenheim. Much more rustic and more locals than tourists.
Only find the site in german - https://www.herbstfest-rosenheim.de/

That's the start of Oktoberfest. I believe it starts on Sep 16. We're renting an apartment for those days (near English Garden).

It'll be interesting how we'll hold up. None of us is a hardcore drinker. Last time I went I drank 4 steins at the Hofbrauhaus the night before opening day. Don't know how I was able to but I was super hungover the next day, especially when breakfast the next morning was consisted of white sausages and beer and then more beer that afternoon after the major tapped the first keg.

Indeed, official start is the 16th. Well, Im really not a fan of it so I wouldnt come to it. If we plan a meet, then it has to be outside into a pub, bar or something...I guess they must be have plenty of space during the event

For sure. We don't have to meet at the Fest.

You could do me a big favour if you want to. Have two books at a shop via eBay ready to buy but shipping is more than twice the sum of buying them.
If I buy them, is it possible to ship to your adress and you're gonna bring them to the meeting, that would be beyond from great
Dont worry, no forbidden or restricted items, just aircraft literature.

How big are the books? And would you be able to have them delivered by today? I'm flying out to Vienna in a few hours.

Octoberfest is crazy. Everyone should experience it once or twice. But I prefer the slightly smaller fests like the Staubing Fest in Regensburg or the Bad Cannstatter Fest in Stuttgart.

The Staubing fest is awesome bc 90% of the people attending that fest dress up in Dirndl and Lederhosen. It makes for quite the eye fest!!

Next time in Germany I'll be sure to check out those smaller towns. Made a friend while traveling in Japan and he lives in Hamburg. He said that their Oktoberfest is pretty cool as well.

The books are very small and your 8"x10" size, but its then too late, the seller announces a shipping time overland for 7 days. Thank you anyway, lets plan the meeting as soon as you're around. How about SAT evening or SUN afternoon?

Sounds good. We can PM each other and go from there. Other locals are welcome.
