The all-new BMW X2 to compete in the 2023 Rebelle Rally

• Only days after its World Premiere, the BMW X2 will make its inaugural appearance at the Rebelle Rally.
• The 8-day competition covers more than 1,300 miles of challenging terrain.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – October 12, 2023…BMW of North America is excited to be campaigning the all-new BMW X2 in this year’s Rebelle Rally, the longest off-road rally competition held in the United States. The all-new BMW X2 will be competing in the X-CROSS™ Class and will be driven and navigated by veteran Rebelle Rally competitors Rebecca Donaghe and Sedona Blinson.

The 2023 Rebelle Rally will get underway Thursday, October 12, at the Mammoth Mountain Resort in Mammoth Lakes, CA, and finish Saturday, October 21, in the Imperial Dunes near the Mexican border. The rally encompasses 6 stages and stretches more than 1,300 miles across the harsh and unforgiving deserts of California and Nevada. A first-time competitor in the rally, the BMW X2 faces a tough challenge that will test the vehicle’s endurance and reliability.

“It is the first time that we have entered a BMW into this competition, which is extremely demanding not only on the driver and navigator, but also on the vehicle. For this competition, the BMW X2 has been modified for severe off-road use with the following enhancements:

• Falken Wildpeak AT Trail Tires
• Rotiform ZMO-M Wheels
• Morimoto Triple Row BangerBar (front) and 2Banger Pod lights (rear)
• Thule Caprock roof platform
• Smittybilt off-road recovery gear and accessories
• BMW M Performance Parts tow straps
• Custom underbody protection/skid plate
• Custom cargo area spare tire carrier
• TerraTrip external odometer

What does the M brand stand for exactly? Hear this all the time, but BMW M hasn’t been a “pure” motorsports division for decades and yet BMW has done just fine. It’s just a car, it’s ok to have a bit of fun with it. No need to treat a car brand like a religious affiliation.

For us old school who were in high school in the 70s it is a disappointment, M meant motorsport. The 2 most important things back then smelled of perfumes and car fumes. For the new kids with no knowledge of history it just means cool, M stands for marketing.

Rebelle Rally is literally a motorsport. This seemingly mediocre effort might be diluting the legitimacy of rally events generally, but this sponsorship is only propping up capital-M Motorsport bona fides.
