FYI - The Modern day equivalent of the E31 is the F13 6er.

This is something entirely new for BMW... In essence it shows potential roots for a new family in the upper segment abandoned when the economic crisis killed off the CS Concept .
BMW have always , since the CS Concept wanted to envision a new family that would connect the brand to Rolls-Royce.

A new luxury family is being developed in Munich which will enhance the vision of this concept in its surfacing and intricate detailing beginning with the next BMW 7er which in essence Gran Lusso provides a window to that car.

The new family under conception in Munich will mimic the 6er in offering Coupe , Cabrio and Gran Coupe aswell as a more luxurious X7 model.

I think Pininfarina did it's job with this Gran Lusso Coupe, a design concept exercise like this is supposed to draw emotional response whether it be positive or negative... love or hate... worst design is when you neither love it or hate it.

I like many elements of this car, I see F32 BMW M4 side vents in this concept.

That front grill reminds me too more of a Ford Lincoln, sorry but I will keep my F12. I will pass on The Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe!

Why is BMW so revealing with its luxury concepts and not the M cars?

If BMW wants to get back into the luxury forefront and better connect and integrate with RR, why is it so revealing on this front?

One day.we will be transported around in pods and in that case, I rather be autonomously carted around in luxury. One day you can have your house in Switzerland and the next in Tierra del Fuego. Then virtuality reality be able to recreate everything and you will let your brain do all the work.

Until then, please be more revealing with M. I want to enjoy the physical world before it becomes artificial.

I think I have a great eye for design, its the field I work in, this car is stunning to me on a screen and I bet in person it is even better. That front end is very menacing, almost bad ass, you don't want to mess with me kinda of a look, it would look great on a large car like the 7er. People are always too quick to judge a design by the 2 dimensional vision they get on a screen, wait till you see if in the flesh and you see the light catch the curves and lines. This design will make a great looking car.

Lots of folks here may not like this car, but I suspect the general public will.

I sent the a photo of this thing to my niece (28 years old), and waiting to amass some cash before buying her first BMW (she want's the 6er) and she loves it.

She's not even obliquely interested in cars, other than the one that she owns at the moment, and that only insofar as it just needs to be in good working order and not have any dents. She sees a car and decides that she likes what it looks like or not. That pretty well determines whether she'll buy it or not buy it. All the other things about the car just don't matter to her. God help her if Yugo make a hot looking car.

They should give this design to Honda and have them call it the Accord-L (long) version.

This could be the start of a REAL luxury line for Honda!!

I'm hoping this new family will be a new take on the 8 series; something big, comfortable, and supremely luxurious to compete with the Mercedes CL (or S Class Coupe) so the next 6 series can become a little more sporty. I love the way the 6 series looks but it's too big and soft for me to consider it a sports car at all which means that BMW is missing something in the 911/SL price range that can really compete with those cars' driving dynamics.
