Thumbs up Wrapped my steering wheel trim for $10

Ive been seeing threads asking about solutions to the steering wheel trim pealing problem and I had the same issue. I figured wrapping the trim wouldn't be that hard so I ordered some carbon dinoc looking stuff off ebay for 10 bucks thinking, what the heck, mine as well give it a shot for that cheap. I ordered the matte black carbon to try and match my other interior trim as close as possible.

The material is actually very easy to work with. It has some stretch to it, so i could stretch the wrap around the curves for a nice tight fit. I didn't use a heat gun or anything like that, my only tool was literally just a knife (Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for any of knife guys lol).

Anyways, here are some pictures and Im extremely happy with how it turned out. And it actually matches the other interior trim pretty well! Im about to detail the shit out of the inside, so I know its not clean

In low light

In day light

Trying to show how it matched the other trim somewhat

This is very nice work, even the details(edges)around the buttons are just a perfect cut !
But....our CF dash trim texture is going from the left to the right side and on your steering wheel it's the other way,so i'm not sure if this would be possible , but then the match with your dash trim would be even better ?
And one thing...the leather of your steering wheel(it's shiny) could use some "Leatherique Rejuvenator", the whole picture would than just flawless !(i think it's just me )
Anyway congrats man !

I know man lol I saw that when i was looking back through the pictures, i guess i could have wrapped it the other direction, but oo well... ill see how this holds up and if it gets any blemishes, ill wrap it again the other direction!

Thanks for the leather cleaner tip, i was actually heading to advanced auto parts to get some interior detail stuff and ill pick something up... my seats are still somewhat matte but i need to do it to all leather pieces

Looks great aside from the wheel trim going the opposite direction than the dash!

Was it hard to remove the trim? Do you need to remove the horn/airbag?
Anyone have a guide?

no not hard, yes you do have to remove the airbag but its easy too.
there are 3 screws behind the steering wheel that you have to unscrew for the trim... as for the airbag removal, look at this guide:http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=242963

no really it looks not bad
But as I said you can clearly see it is wrap and that is why it looks cheap. It does not matter how much you paid.
I like to look at it but I hate to know that it is wrap if you get my point.

Ok I'm sold. My trims is peeling really bad, and I'm surprised it's taken me this long to do something about it. Going to wrap mine is black alcantara.

Wait a minute... The steering trim carbon doesn't align with the pattern of the dash. They are opposite. If you rotate the steering pattern clock wise 90 degress, they will match. I'm OCD... The wrap looks great.
